Upper Gasket Kit?

I bought a 2002 2.0l engine. I went to get the upper rebuild gasket kit and I'm being told, 1. $250, and 2. it depends on the manufacturing date. First, $250? WTF? And does the manufacture date really matter? What is the difference in that year? It looks like I can get the individual gaskets from RockAuto.com for about $60.

there is a production split. After 9/2/2002 they use a copper type headgasket, before they use a aluminum/cork gasket. It is the same size and everything, just different types.

your cost is 180.67 + shipping, to michigan should be around 15 bucks. So you are looking @ 195.

and the rockauto.com won't be a rebuild upper kit, you will have to nickel and dime everything else.

Thanx for the info sed. I take it it is better to have the most recent kit with the copper gasket?
