Ok besides the middle nut what am I missing? It was a ***** to get that off and I still can't get the rotor off. Is there something else or is it just rusted on?

yeah when i did my 01s rotors i beat them until the hub came off with the rotor fused on, i then pressed the rotor off, got new bearings and pressed the hub back into the bearings. Living in the northeast sucks don't it? Thats why i live in fl now

So I'm not missing anything? I just basically hit the living **** out of it until I can get it off?

Ok are you sure I'm not missing anything? Because I have been hammering the **** out of these things and neither one has budged at all!! I mean the only thing holding them on is that one nut in the middle of the wheel. Nothing behind it or the screws that the lugnuts go on. I'm ****in dieing here:(

use a propane torch to heat the ROTOR and then hammer it a little more.

Ok I need some help with this. I have hammered the living **** out of these rotors. And I mean hammered. Neither one has moved the slightest beat. WTF? I'm hitting them full force with a metal hammer and nothing. What could I be missing. And I realized that the middle bolt has nothing to do with the rotor. It is only connected to the hub. This is really killing me guys. I need to get my car back on to the road. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

you're talking about the rear rotors, right? the front ones should come right off after removing the set screw. or do i have it wrong?

Above method can also be applied to a stubborn ho. =)

Just keep spraying on some "Penetrating" Lubricant. I mean really soak it. Then use a hammer or rubber mallot and keep beating. Also, the propane torch method mentioned above should work.

You need to thread a bolt into the two threaded holes and the rotor will pop off. When you put a new rotor on you dont have to thread anything- they seat themselves.
Thats how the rotors were on an '01 Elantra and a '00 Accent I replaced rotors on.
The nut in the middle is the axle nut.

im tellin you guys, when i took the rotors off my 01, I had to use an impact hammer for 20 -30 minutes, then a 9 lb sledge. Finally they came off with the hub and i used a bearing press to break the rotor off. Rust is a *****, your best bet is to heat up those rotors till they are red hot, i mean the whole thing is absolutely cherry red and beating the hell out of it. Short of that buying two new hubs thats the only way

I had to use a blowtorch and a metal sledge hammer to get my 01's off.

I was lucky that mine came off without too much effort, but we still had to hit them fairly hard.....try hitting it really hard in the MIDDLE and not on the edges. If that doesn't work I won't be surprised that you will need an impact gun. My b/f's off his Tib were not willing to come off and the shop had to break them to come off. These rotors are commonly found to be "fused" on the car, best of luck.

sledge hammer. rotate a bit, sledge again. Mine took like 30 min a piece using spray and sledge. Also used a piece of 2x4 where I was hitting (friend held 2x4, brave man...LOL)

SPB, hes got an 02. So we are all talking about the front rotors. They will like xtra said, FUSE to the hubs of the car with salt, and grime and rust.

Being in the south myself, did anyone with a car FROM the south have similar problems getting the rotor off? I removed my rotors from Civic I had at one time and they were not a problem except using an impact hammer to get the bolts loose.

Thoughts?

Can't you use two bolts to fit the small holes to "push" the rotor off? Or is this only with rear drums? Well, I know it works for the rear drums.

I just went thru the same ordeal on an '01 Elantra w/ 106K miles on it. Used heat, bolts in the screw hole to force off rotor, + PB Blaster, and started SPLITTING the rotor in half. Gave up, took it to the dealer with my parts in hand. $95 dollars and two hours later, I got the car back, all installed. First time I EVER had problems getting a rotor off. I'll never try this job again.
