Hey all i'm new to the auto modding world and I was wondering if you guys could suggest a short ram intake kit (preferably K&N) that would fit an 03 elantra gls? I already installed a icpglobal 2W solar battery charger, replaced the crappy stock stereo and the stock tires. I also would like to know what these strut bar things are about, BTW love this site and all the info it has on just elantra's!

like everyone else always says to the newbies.. try searching

what fits as far as short ram goes.. modify a civic intake. 92-99. if you need to look at one, go to walmart and in the auto dept they have an APC one for the civic. you have to cut off a good 2-3 inches to get it to fit, but it works

**edit** oh.. and you also have to get a new silicone adapter to attach it to the throttle body. i spent a good 2 hrs fighting the silicone adapter that came with mine (i got the one from walmart) and.. well.. it won in the end. went to autozone, picked up a 3" silicone thing for $5.. fits perfect now.

I chose that specific solar battery charger/maintainer because most of the ones on the market now are only 1.5 Watt and I wanted the best to install :) I ordered it off of amazon.com icpglobal 2W battery charger SE (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00020BM50/002-8537537-2905633?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance). Got the car at 57k a year ago, and just now I am starting to get around to modding it, first thing, get rid of the fram filter and going to synthetic.

- JVC KD-G510 CD Receiver
- ICP Global 2W solar charger (not through the cig lighter)
- Warrior HR 195/60R-15 88H BSW Tires

well don't get a short ram, they suck! ba dum dum.

Get a full CAI (Search Ebay for 94-97 accord 4cyl intake)

Strut bars connect the two upper struts towers and stop them from flexing up and down while you take turns. So instead of in a hard right turn your right strut tower dives down and your left jumps up, they stay more even giving you more control through a turn.

Upgrade to the 19.2mm tib sway bar before you get a strut bar if you are concerned with cornering and less concerned with looks.

shawn :)

First off K&N sucks. As Sed has said already do a CAI if you can, and do the rear sway bar first, before the strut brace.

I've got K&N on my CAI and I think it works pretty freakin' well.

It really depends how you drive.....do you rev it to high heaven and shift, or do you drive it calmly....hehehe per say? Short rams are great if you are revving and shifting at high RPM's, CAI is sorta the opposite. I looked into the same thing and cause of my driving style I did the CAI. I also didn't like the fact that the short ram is like a HAI/WAI (hot/warm intake) :)

Solar powered what??......I hope that's not a plug in thing and it just sits on your dash...been there, done that, no workie...but if it makes you feel better....

Bars....front and rear...search and I'm sure you will have a better explaination of them than how I will explain them. They make the car "tighter" to drive.

First off K&N sucks.
Actually it's the engine that sucks... the K&N filter just helps it breathe.

OK, there have been some tests which have shown that a brand-new generic paper filter will flow more than a K&N. But a paper filter's airflow & filtering ability degrades much faster than a K&N. With that said, K&N filters are still good products and I use one. One of the best filters would be an Apexi filter, but they're expensive and they have a funky flange which makes installing one on a custom CAI difficult.

What I'd suggest is a 2.5" or 2.75" diameter CAI for a 94-97 4-cylinder Accord. You can get them off ebay for around $30. Then buy the appropriate universal K&N cone filter from 4filters.com.

If you just want a SRI for now then simply buy the K&N cone filter and install it on the stock plastic elbow. Don't expect much of a performance gain from this though.

Thanks for all the help guys! I use the solar charger cause out here in the desert batteries tend to die on you quick. I heard of the Weapon X Intakes (http://www.andysautosport.com/products.php?id=Hy01Elantr&make=Hyundai&mcat=Intakes&scat=Short%20Ram%20Intakes) but I dont see any reviews on them so I figured play it safe and go with the K&N.
