Just wondering.....why is it that ground effects are just as exspensive as whole body kits! There is less material...I wanted to go for ground effects for my 05 elantra hatch and the **** is just as exspensive...any idea....does any body know where you can purchase used ones? My car is already dropped 1.5 in the front and rear but I want more of an effect! Thanks for the help.

My theory has always been...

1. The materials used are cheap.
2. R&D on a ground effects/lip kit is more time consuming because it needs to fit along the existing bumper.
3. R&D on a full kit is easy, all you need to do is keep the part that connects with the fenders/hood/lights and modify the bottom half of the bumper to include whatever you want. This means the fit is easy to maintain.

Thoughts?

My opinions on this is because most ground effect/lip kits. (not for our cars though) are NOT fiberglass. They are polyeurathane, just like your bumper. That makes them much more resilliant (sp) to damage and scrapes.

Now, with our cars its simple economics. They are so expensive because they can be. If a honda owner was looking for a lip kit and saw one @ or over 1000 dollars, all they would have to do is say wow, thats too much money, let me go to the next guy and buy one for 300 - 400 bucks.

Supply is low, demand is relatively high (for such a niche market)= sellers market.

Now, conversely (like with the honda crowd) Supply is rediculousy high and demand is relatively low (for such a flooded market) = buyers market.

There are a few ways to change this:

1. Get someone to start making more options (hahaha)

2. Noone buy any, don't inquire, nothing, this will send demand vs supply topsy turvy, making people sell them off, BUT this will go right back to even higher afterwards because we will buy them all up @ low prices, sending demand super high and supply to zero.

3. Get creative. I'm 99% the side skirts from a late 90's cavalier Z34 will fit with little modification. People have used the front lip from a mercury, go to the junkyard, find lip kits and experiment. We are the ones that have to get it done.

jw did you get a quote on the kdm side skirts?

not if you get good used parts at a junkyard for alot less than the original value. you can always experiment, and if it doesnt work, theres always ebay so you can resell whatever.
