Lately I've been tempted to trade in the XD for a Saab 9-2x Aero, especially now that they are offering GM employee pricing to everyone until July 5th.
I have a friend who's a Sales Manager at a Saab dealership in NorCal and she's always tried to talk me into getting a Saab. She and her family have always been Saab enthusiasts, whereas I am not, but I love the fact that the 9-2X is not really a Saab but a Subaru WRX in disguise. I actually like how the Saab looks better too. I'd love an STi version, but I would settle for the WRX with it's 4 cyl 2.0 turbo.
Employee price will be less than $20K for the Aero. That's less than a WRX! I would jump on this deal right away if it wasn't for the fact that the XD is worth **** and I really do not want to have another car payment for another 5 years or so.

I like the idea of driving a Subaru WRX or Saab 9-2, but I'm in the same boat as you -- My XD and it isn't work anything in trade, so I'll stick with it for now.

I really like the styling of the WRX better. But that's a hell of a deal.

I hate Saabs but I have to say the 9-2X is a hell of a deal, especially at the employee price.
I'd do it for sure. I want one myself but I need to pay off the XD before getting a new car.

without being a GM employee, why would anyone get the saab 9-2X over a WRX when it's the exact same car but more expensive than a WRX? i can see if you're getting a sweet discount, but other than that, i don't see why saab even has this car in its lineup. exceptt for the tail lights and front fascia/grille/lights, it's a WRX, right down to the smallest little details. at least subaru should have thrown in a few goodies on the saab version to justify its "saab-ness".

As to why Saab has this car in it's line up beats me, as the 9-2X Aero is a more powerful car than their 9-3 Aero. That's like Hyundai releasing an Accent with more power than the Elantra. I think the only reason Saab is releasing the 9-2 is to attract the sub $30K crowd.
I may not find that the car is worth any more than the WRX, but others can justify the few thousand dollar differences in it's looks alone. I like how the Saab looks compared to the WRX.
There are other differences such as warranty, and if I remembered correctly the Saab's warranty is slightly better.
Even before GM offered the employee pricing to everyone, a lot of people were looking into the 9-2X over the Impreza/WRX because Saab was offering all sorts of discounts. If you're familiar with fatwallet.com, there's a huge 90 something page thread on the Saab 9-2's.

Well, the 9-2x gets rid of that boy-racer look of the WRX, and a better looking interior, not to mention firmer suspension setup than the regular WRX.
If I had a choice i'd definitely pay more money for 9-2x.
