NEW PICS. Well, here are some brand new pics of my car. You can see some definite changes. First off, no more EGR/Astrel kit. Second, 35% tint all around (just happened yesterday). It's not as dark as I thought it was going to be, but I didn't want to have any trouble with the cops so this is good. Legal here in VA is 50% in the front and 35% everywhere else. I like the look a lot.
So... why no more kit? Well, to tell everyone the truth, I don't think I'm responsible enough to own one, haha. I kept scraping it on curbs. About a month of so ago I scraped it for the last time, a nice big scrape on the front so I decided to take it off instead of being a ricer, haha. Another reason is that the back piece was cracked a little bit (I think someone tried to steal it by trying to rip it off because I never hit or scraped the back). I'll put up a for sale post a little later.

Well, you can see here the residue left behind from when I took off the kit. I used some silicone glue stuff when I put it on that came with the kit. Nothing I've tried can get that stuff off. It's pissing me off at this point, ha.

love the chrome headlights!! I will have 2 put that on my x-mas list :) I also love the Leather interior, u did a great job!
I had 20% tint on my last car, no trouble w/the cops. I am not sure what the legal % is, it might be 35% too. I wonder if any one in Florida knows the legal %? I know one company would not do 20% so i had to go 2 another.

Super, use a product by 3-M called Wood Grain and Stripe Remover. 3-M part nubmer 08908. This stuff gets off the nasty residue left by that fake woodgrain crap they used to put on cars in the 80's. It works!

Yeah, you don't really have to change your driving style much at all with the Eibach's... just slow down a little more over speed bumps, stuff like that. It's easy to live with.

Haha, it'll never end, huh? Well, I might get around to that... I might even wire up my fog lights this coming week (then I won't be a ricer which is kinda sad, hah).
Actually, the problem I have with the spoiler install now is that my tint on the back window doesn't cover the third break light, so when I have the spoiler on and the third brake light out part of the window will be untinted... thoughts?

Yeah, but I'll notice it. Hmm... I was thinking I could somehow mess up the tint, then when I take it back to have them redo it (free for life), I could just have removed the third brake light, then the tint would be good and I could install the spoiler... that's kinda messed up though, haha.

Which body kit did you have? trying to find pics of different kits. The evo kit is so-so in my book.
SuperGLS
12-28-2004, 10:41 PM
I had the EGR/Astrel Kit. Check out the "All Available Bodykits" thread for lots of pics.
So, for a graduation present the guys at work got together and bought me a remote starter (with install). I got it installed today, it's the cheapest one available I think, the Viper 130, and so far it's working great. In order for them to get keyless entry to work with it they are ordering a drivers side door actuator (NOTE - I do NOT have the factory keyless entry or alarm). So I should be able to get that installed next week.
I can't wait to use it when it's 25 degrees tomorrow morning.
One thing I'm not a big fan of is the small 5" antenna that it uses. The antenna isn't bad itself, but they mounted it on the upper drivers side part of the windshield (wiring run nicely behind the A pillar). I was wondering if I might be able to mount it where it's concealed. Does anyone think that would hinder it's reception very much?

12-28-2004, 11:05 PM
Well, it wouldn't be that easy to steal. And like Ctele said, it's not like I'd be starting it from a long distance away.
To steal it when it's started you'd need to:
Unlock the doors somehow.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn to the ON position.
Press on the brake.
And then go.
Chances are nobody is going to be able to get in, let alone have my key. If you press the brake before you insert the key then the car shuts off. Also, I can use the key FOB to turn off the car if I saw anyone trying to break in.

I haven't done any driving yet, but you are right, they seemed to work perfect, without any lose in pressure or anything. I hardly use them anyway, but I'll update when I do.
UPDATE - the washers seem to work great, better than before in fact. I always thought the wipers got to the fluid too quickly to be most effective. This mod, although it doesn't slow down the wipers, it allows the fluid to be more spread out.
Also, new clear door markers installed. Just put the DIY up in the DIY section (not forum).

It's working great. The keyless entry had been acting funny, meaning the drivers door solenoid (or whatever it is) wasn't pulling the lock all the way unlocked. When I had my door panel off I simply tightened some screws and now it's back working well.
However, I've have noticed that if you leave the car running more than 3 minutes every day while it heats up that the gas mileage suffers noticibly. Meaning, I went from 360 lifetime MPTank average to 280 in two tanks. That was when it was really cold outside and I was running it for probably 5-6 minutes. Now I'm just keeping it under 3 and it seems to be ok.

Super: Here's a quick 'at-night' multigauge video I did while messing around with my wife's camera the other night (I like my Cannon better, but her Kodak does videos). It's short, I was just playing with her camera really, but here it is;

I finally installed it with my Dad. I always make him help when I think I'm going to mess something up, since he is less concerned about the car than I am, he doesn't hesitate to just do it. The fit isn't totally perfect in a one or two spots but overall it's good.
I'll take better pics next time I wash the car.

I think I've found a place to make the wheels work. Now I just have to find some time to get over there.
Also, I just updated the first post to include pretty much every picture I've ever taken of my car (minus some shots of missing dash fascias and door panels and such).

The tint place wants $110 to remove the rear window tint and put new tint on. Damn, what the hell?
What should I do? Since I've put the spoiler on and removed the standard third brake light it looks stupid with a missing patch of tint.

If you use the radio more than sparingly, the radio reception could be a concern. Some stations still work perfect, and others don't. It also depends where I'm at.

Some new pics depicting my new taillights. Tinted with Niteshades, off of eBay, $51 shipped (BONUS!). They have some imperfections you can see up close, I'm thinking about sanding them perhaps, not quite sure. Ideas?
Also, they are pretty dark during the day time, I'm waiting for someone to run into me, although the third brake light on the spoiler is pretty bright.

No, honestly I haven't found a machine shop that will enlarge the hub space on the wheels for me. Also, because I haven't had much money, I haven't continued to look. Hopefully I can do something with the small amount of money I should get from doing my taxes. I do have some pics with them on though, but not good ones. I may post them.
As for the grill, I took it back off and I'm waiting for some paint to arrive to me. Hopefully if the weather is nice this week I'll be able to paint it and put it back on. Exciting stuff.

Looking good James. Ya know, I'm not usually one to suggest this sort of thing, but I think your car is one of the few that would look good with *gasp* - white rims. Everything on the car is either white or black (no more red tails), so white rims and black rubber would proabably look good. I'll Photochop one to see if I can make it look right.
Here's my chop:

Paint your wiper arms white, too.... Make sure to get the cap that covers the mounting bolt, you'd be surprised how much sweeter it looks like that.... If you're feeling REALLY energetic, remove your wiper cowl and paint that white, too... Makes the hood really flow to the windshield....

Leave the wipers alone. The car is black (look at all the trim around the windows) and white. So the wipers are black - they fit the scheme.

Yesterday a friend and I did some "Spring cleaning."
I changed the front brake pads. It was easy and we didn't run into any problems (rusty bolts, difficult pistons, etc). We also put back on the stock mudguards that have been off since my lip kit days. We fixed a problem with my gauges (there was some wires touching each other and the fuel gauge one flickered on and off every now and then). And, we started painting my grill (from Carbonman).
I've decided that painting is no fun. Hopefully we'll finish up next week and I'll have pictures.

Today I sold the Sentra Spec-V wheels that I had that were never used. I also went up to a junkyard that Reece told me about and ripped out a gray dash and a bunch of the gray interior trim pieces I wanted ($100 total). It's going to be a while until I get around to that though.
We never finished painting the grill I have, but after seeing how the guy did such a good job with my mirrors I might have him do the grill too. We'll see.
Some of you might have already seen the pics in the other thread, but here are the pics of my new LED Turn signal mirrors.

Today I got the lower interior trim pieces that I bought yesterday installed. Now it looks even more strange because the weather stripping is tan and everything else on the lower half the of the car (except the carpet) is gray. From what I understand some of the XDs have black weather stripping?
What happen to the grille?
I never finished painting it because as we all know I'm a lazy modder. I think I may have the guy that painted the mirrors do the grill at some point and then I'll put it on.
Thanks for the comments Scott and Lisa.

Update.
I recently upgraded to the GT leather wrapped shift knob and chrome button (from the Santa Fe). I also picked up some more gray trim pieces (sides of the dash, covers that go over the front seat bolts).
Also I got the all black weatherstripping for the front doors. Does anyone think it would be a big deal to cut the weather stripping? I am thinking I'd like to keep the tan weather stripping up top and use the black weatherstripping for the bottom half the the car (to keep with my two tone interior project). Do you think that could lead to a water leaks and potentially rust?
I love them mirrors man.Good work
