Well I decided to get a different filter for my XD. And I cant belive that I never saw this.
The 03-up 2.0 Tiburon has a different Filter Than the XD. Why if is the same Engine, Any way the Fram and super tech filter is the 7317
is twice the size of that 6607 ;) So there you have it

Better yet, I use the even bigger Fram XG3593A (high mileage, well constructed filter)
The mobil 1 M-105 is HUGE!!! and it will still fit the car.

I looked up both the 04 Elantra and 04 Tibby 2.0 Liters and they use the exact same Purolater and Fram Filters. I have used fram in every car I have owned with no problems, my dad has been using Fram since about 1976 when he got his first car with no problems. I now you will post a link to a study some dude did in his garage of every filter and he says Fram sucks, but do you believe everything you see one the internet? unless he completed those tests in a clean room, instead of a garage maby I would believe it.
no, I will tell you that we here at the dealer have done independent tests, cut open frams.
I really don't care how long you have used frams, they suck, they are cardboard crap.
They used to be the best in the industry, they aren't anymore.
do what you want to do, noone telling you anything on the internet will make you feel any different.

I'm with sed here.
At college the q-lube I worked at used fram filters exclusively. I saw quite a few blown seals and split cases while I was there. I even had the case split on my car pulling out of the drive. There's nothing like looking in the mirror and seeing 5 quarts of your oil on the ground.

It's not so much that Fram is a bad filter (ok, part of it is), just there are much better filters out there for about the same or less money. Fram charges premium prices for a filter made with some of the cheapest parts. They use cardboard end caps where everyone else uses metal (except for the new Champion made filters (Super Tech, Bosch, STP).
Fram also has that nice filter that contains Teflon, which even Dupont says should not be used in internal combustion engines.
I can get a Puralotor Premium for less than a Fram. For about a $1 more, I can get OEM, Wix, or Puralator Pure 1 and have a much better filter.
Fram, the orange can of doom! :D
If you doubt it, cut one of yours open and see for yourself.

Why the hell would it matter if he completed his tests in a garage? This is an automotive test, where else would the guy do it? I don't need to be a clean room to tell you your **** stinks.
I don't even think you know what a clean room is used for.

so what is a good filter? I used prPuralotor last oil change and in deed it almost was my last oil change the seal liek fell right off and al lmy oil leaked if I didnt stop at a nice and easy I would have had a sezed up 2005 hyundai elantra, the nI put a stp and that seems fine.
that is o nthe relative price range, my friend had the same problem wit ha k n oil filter paid 12 bucks for.
SO bottom line what is a good filter then??
OEM will never fail on you. Why go aftermarket @ 12$ when the MOST expensive dealers will charge you 6?
go to the dealer, get 10 of them @ your next paycheck they most likely will give you a deal. If not, I will sell you 10 for 47 dollars shipped. Thats 4.70 a filter for 30k miles.
I mean, wtf is peoples problems with OEM?

OEM= 82" long, 1.5" wide for 123 sq inches.
ST = 38.5" long, 1" wide for a amazing 38.5 sq inches. About 1/3 the OEM. No thanks.
http://users2.ev1.net/~nlhoyt/oil/hcrimp.JPG
There is a slightly over sized ST filter available (7317) but it is only about 1/2" taller, if that, and I don't expect it to be much different inside than the 6607, so around 58 sq inches.
The final thing is the way the ends of the media are attached to each other. The ST just glues the ends together, OEM crimps the ends to the inner tube itself.
Winner I say OEM
this is what I will be using with my oil cooler and oil filter relocation kit Link (http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51515) :D

I can't agree more. People are willing to pay twice as much for an untested filter that might be as good. This is the most important thing you can do to keep your engine alive.
Why risk it? Anyone in the Indy are can pm me and I'll help you out cost wise. I can save about 15% off list.

Hey, the Fram X2 is very different from other fram filters. I believe Fram bought out the company that made Hard Driver filters and the X2 series filters are very similar.
Compared to all other frams, they use metal endcaps instead of cardboard and have reinforced filter media.
I can't find any XG7317 so instead use XG3593A.
Mobil filters that fit our car (from smallest to biggest):
M1-108
M1-110
M1-104
M1-105
Fram filters that fit our car:
3593A
6010A
7317
6607
3950
6811
2977
7325
6017
2865
6941
5343
They will all fit but I'm sure most have very different bypass valve specs. I know the 7th gen civic filters fit our car and have the same specs. Might even use the same OEM filter company.
I posted about this in an earlier thread.
Here are some pics of a Supertech 7317 and the PureOne equivalent
http://www.jason-long.com/filterchop.htm
Do a search for my name and oil filter, and you can find my opinions on the filters
I would also suggest the Adanced Auto 7317 as it is made by Purolator, and can be had for around $2.50, or $1.25 on sale. I stocked up on them during the last sale, as they work for the bike too. I haven't gotten to use them yet, as I went overseas, but construction looks the same to the PureOne. Filtering I don't know.
Also oil filters aren't used in clean rooms, they are used in cars. What is the point of testing an oil filter in a clean room. Second, if an OEM Hyundai filter is good AND cheap, go for it. I would spend the extra time figuring out who made it, and what factory made it. AC Delco is made by two different companies in two different countries. Their Mexico plant doesn't make them quite up to par with the other plant. Also, most OEM filters are made by the big names. If not for warranty(I don't think that they could Moss-Magnuson their way through that unless the non-OEM just failed) the same filter made by the same people with the same quality can be found cheaper. For instance, FRAM makes Honda's filters. Honda told them how to make it and then made it "to specs". Would I pay $6 for a fram when I can pay $2.08 for a Supertech 7317 that I know can last 3K-5K miles, or $2.48 for an Advanced Auto 7317 that I would take 5-7K miles, or $4.something for a Pureone that I would take to 10K miles? No.

So what is the real advantage to a larger filter over OEM sized filters? Will it filter better? No. Will it last longer? I suppose so but if you change your oil regularly then why do you need it to last longer? Will it filter better? No. Filters are better at filtering as they get clogged. A larger filter will take longer to get clogged. This is relative to a standard oil change cycle of 3-5k miles. If you want to go 10k miles between oil changes then a very large filter is probably a good idea for you.

Interesting read guys. I'm going to just pick up an OEM filter next time, in about 3,000kms as I change my own oil most of the time. It's hot now, so Mobil1 20w50 is going in.
Why only go 3000 miles? Especially with synthetic oil. Use it, or give me your Mobil 1 when you drain it at 3000 miles and I will use it for another 3K miles. If your really scared of your oil not getting filtered, use a bypass filter and you can bump your oil changes up to 25K miles.

Well, in Canada :P we use kilometres, I've driven 3,000kms since my last oil change, the service requirement is every 6000kms. I'm holding to the service schedule, especially while I still have warranty. Even then, I drive so hard I wouldn't feel good making any oil work for more than 6,000kms. Anyway, the main point is, I'm not touching a Fram filter again.
I'm not touching a Fram filter again.I dont blame you who wants this in their car
