Im not sure if I posted this in the right area oh well. Just wondering for all the car buffs out there...I was wondering what you guys think about the kia sedona or kia in general. My wife wants a minivan.....I read numerous reveiws and some say they leak, paint sucks, paint comes off knobs on the inside....and I heard some good reveiws.....the dealer has come down alot in price so I can afford it! Bottom line...should I just go buy a used dodge or something and say **** the new car.....its either a used carvan or a new Sedona??????? Help....I plan to go looking today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kia is (is going to be) to Hyundai, what Pontiac is to Chevy. They're Hyundais for the most part, with some youthful, sportier (dare I say that) tuning. I don't pay much attention to minivans, but you shouldn't be afraid of Kia on the whole.

My next door neighbor has a first-year Sedona, and my neighbor across the street has a 2004 -- they both really like them. The only reported problem between the the two Sedonas is that the first-year one keeps throwing a CEL for something in the fuel tank venting system. Other than that, neither of them have any complaints.

I checked with them a month ago 'cause a friend of mine is looking to buy a minivan, too, and the Kia is by far the best priced one.

Be careful with used Dodge minivans -- everybody I know with a V6 dodge minivan has had the transmission lock up at 70K-90K miles. However, a freind of mine here at work has a used 2000 Ford Windstar with 58K miles that he's been having good luck with.

Hope that helps.

I work at a kia dealer and for the money you cant go wrong.I think it just as good if not better than the Ford or dodge.Plus I think a $4000 rebate. The new 06 Sedona will be up there with the Toyota and Honda :D

Tell them to make sure the gas cap clicks three times when they fill up.

Kia's were ****ty when they first came out, just like Hyundai...but over the years, they've really come around. There isn't much difference now between the two companies.

Whatever you do, stay the **** away from Dodge. My mom has an '01 Caravan(4 cyl) and it's a POS!!!

My parents were dodge folks (minivans, we have a big family) until the caravans began to lose quality (i.e. early nineties) so I wouldnt reccomend a dodge. As far as the Sedona not really much experience with it. My friends and I went to the grand canyon and such out west and we had a sedona. It performed well in the outstanding circumstances only complaint was (and it sounds like repatition) the fuel system. It smelled like gas but after reading the above we might not have shut the cap completely :D The Sedona is definately a better choice than the dodge IMO.

Stay away from Chevy minivans! My wife has one. It has had numerous ridiculous problems. The engine had a major defect that Chevy knew about, and would not cover under Warranty. We are talking about a 2,000.00 problem that will turn into a 5,000.00 problem. Three dealers refused to fix it.
I threatened legal action and media attention. Not only was it properly fixed, but part of the warranty was restarted.

Maybe you should wait till the 06 Sedona comes out... I heard good and bad reviews about the Sedona too. The biggest gripe people have with it is that it weighs much more than most of it's competitors (that have simular HP). I don't think you'll have any problems if you get it though... it just that heavy = slower acc and more gas used.

A friend at work has one and is quite pleased with it. The only complaint that he has is that the layout in the back is different than his last van (Caravan) and therefore is not as "roomy" for larger items. You may wanna look at the back storage area and compare with other models.
He has had it for just under a year with nada problems.

Well, the Kia Sedona aren't going to be the "same" until the new generation comes out, so I would wait as well.

If I were going to buy a minivan right now I'd get an Odyssey, no doubt.

Dodge Caravans are absolute ****. My parents had a '00 bought brand new and it always needed work. It ate up all the brakes, wore out all the shocks and struts, broke an axle and a bunch of other stuff. The steering column was replaced under warranty and there was always a horrible smell from the ac/ventilation system.
Then the transmission blew at 47k. After it was fixed they traded it in on an '05 Santa Fe and couldnt be happier with their decision.

The GM minivans use a junk motor. The 3.4 likes to blow.

If you look at Fords the 3.0 is ok but the 3.8 blows headgaskets and sometimes the heads.
