The Infinit sedan just because it has a very nice V6. After this elantra, i dont think i want another i4, even if its an evo VIII. Naturally aspirated is my kinda thing.

I would choose the Infiniti much better comfort and reliability, the mitsu is been plagged with quailty probs, and the legacy just doesnt stack up to the G35. My two cents.

evoVIII will toast either one of those cars all day long.

It all depends, do you want a moddable beast that sacrifices some creature comforts for all out speed? A nice powerful V6 with every possible comfort or a mixture of both...

Personally, I'd take the better daily driver out of those, which is not the EVO. G35 is beautiful, and I do love the way I 'fit' in that car, but the new Legacy is nice as well. I'd do a close comparison of those 2 to decide.

I would get subaru wrx STi.(not the legacy) I've driven both evo7(j-spec) and STi(US). I like the tranny on STi, feels a lot stronger. also I rather have 2.0 than 2.5. One of my friend just got the G35 coupe, it is nice and all but for $38000 sounds little too much for it, and there are so many of them on the street. Good luck

With the selection you posted above, I don't think you're wanting a street machine like the EVO/STI are you? You want more of the sports sedan, but just threw the EVO in there because of the price you can get it for. Am I correct in thinking that?

Lately I've found myself admiring the Evo more and more, but I don't know why.

If I were getting a G35 I'd get the coupe I think.

I'd never own any of those cars though. Turbo XD sounds a lot more exciting.

Here's a nice picture of what can be done to a LGT with some simple mods...
http://www.sccpr.org/Legacy/leoleg3.jpg
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11708&page=1&highlight=STi

I heard from someone who was in a SOA (Subaru of America) meeting that for 2006 the Legacy GT will be upgraded. It will receive a JDM Spec B treatment which will consist of upgraded Bilstein struts and other suspension upgrades. The engine should remain the same, and it's pretty much unknown what else is going to change. But it sounds promising so I'd wait for the '06 if you can.

There has not yet been any official news about the supposed Legacy STi everyone is waiting for. But I'd expect a big jump in price between the GT & STi if it ever comes to life.

EDIT -- Here's a glimpse of the '06:
http://home.earthlink.net/~opiewho1/SpecB.jpg

Aluminum Pedals, Including Deadpedal
MP3 Capable Stereo
Radio & Shift Controls on steering wheel
Navagation standard
18"x7.5" Spec B wheels
215/45R18 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
Bilstein Struts
Spec B Specific Springs
Aluminum lower control arms and rear links

i can't believe no one has mentioned a BMW 325ix or 330ix. less horsepower than the G35 (or evo or sti for sure), but more refinement and superior handling for the same price as the G35. plus that inline six is one sweet sounding engine.

This is kinda throwin stuff out there...but I was driving next to an RX-8 today. I know it's small....but I would LOVE to have one. They even have 4 doors, and they're RWD. Sorry if this is so far out of perspective...I realize you're more looking into the sedans. Oh the first 3 you mentioned, I'd go with the Legacy.

Hmmm....let me see I can spend 38g's on a G35 with a few options...or I can get a Maxima with the same 3.5L engine, fully loaded for 32g's hard decision since they weigh about the same. I would have to go with a Maxima, all these over-rated Nissan's with a different badge on it are p.o.s. G35=350Z I know which one I would pick....plus it would be cheaper.

With the RX-8 you'll be spending a **** load of money on engine oil.

Legacy would be my choice. Clean lines, good all around performance, decent price. Surprisingly not a lot of people buy it so it'll stand out from the crowd, yet It's got an sti engine so there's a lot of aftermarket potential.

I wouldn't buy a nissan or an infiniti right now, as although they're coming out with some awesome looking performance oriented cars, I hear their build quality is on a downhill...

Looks can be deceiving...same exact engine as the 350Z, but more "luxurious". Why do you think they don't allow Skylines into the country without heavy emissions upgrades? Holy crap I just checked the Infiniti website and the damn g35 has gained 11hp...6-speed of course. I must bow to you on keeping good tabs on these cars. The 2003 350z and g35 were nose and nose. (I haven't seen a new skyline yet.)

I think what he means is that most people think of the G35 coupe as a 350Z (or since you're big on JDM, the Fairlady Z).

I dare you to go up to any sport compact enthusiast and say the G35 is a Skyline, and they'll laugh at you in front of your face. Even though the G35 is called a Skyline in Japan, most folks do not compare it to the Skyline that we all know about.. the R32, R33, R34. Those are a whole different breed of car.

Wow, it's funny how we all have different wants and needs from cars. If it was me, there wouldn't be any time needed to decide between the three cars above, I'd take the Evo without question, unless a WRX was added to the list, then I'd need time to think it through.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you could look at them this way, if you want more luxury go with the G35. If you want more performance go with the Legacy GT, if you want to become a weekend track whore, get the Evo.

SWortham
06-15-2005, 10:22 AM
If you want to see what a Legacy can do at the track, check out this thread:
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13894

This guy doesn't have any engine mods.... it's all suspension, brakes, wheels & tires right now. But he passes an Acura NSX, BMW 3-series, Honda S2000, etc, etc. Granted a lot of it is his driving compared to the other timid drivers, but don't count the Legacy out when it comes to performance. :)

Another interesting thing is how good the brakes can be with good tires, upgraded pads, brake lines, and fluid. He does a lot of late braking on the track and makes up a lot of ground on the other cars that way. The front stock rotors are 12.4" -- not bad.

The skidpad #'s and braking distances you read in the magazines reflect badly on the car's performance. And even some of the reviews claim that the handling is not as crisp as say an Acura TSX. But it's all mostly due to the crappy Bridgestone RE92's it comes with. My advice -- burn those tires up and then upgrade them. ;)

Good decision. The aftermarket is pretty good for it already as well. There's the Cobb AccessPort piggyback ECU which will give you 25whp. Or you could go with something like a more expensive custom Ecutek tune to get as much as 40whp. Then there are plenty of suspension options -- including STi Bilstein coilovers. :D

Oh and there are lots of knowledgable people at LegacyGT.com. Xenonk is quite the wheel & tire expert -- not to mention all his racing knowledge.

Just to nail it into the ground how awesome this car can be with some mods, check out this article.
http://moojohn.com/subaru/lgtarticle.pdf :)

Here's an excerpt:
Our whirlwind program achieved phenomenal increases in handling performance. The Legacy's skidpad increased from 0.79g to 0.93g and slalom speed shot up from 64.9 mph to 69.1 mph. 'How does better than a WRX STi' sound? The last time Road & Track tested one, it did 0.88g on the skidpad and 68.4 mph in the slalom. Even more impressive, the Legacy has significantly better steering feel than the STi and exhibits textbook handling on smooth surfaces.
Impressive results... and that's with the stock struts. Even more improvement could be seen with something like the JDM Spec B Bilstein struts, or some nice coilovers.

On top of all that it'll still ride nicer than an STi partially thanks to its longer wheelbase (about 6" longer).

Man, if I was single when I got out of school and did not buy a big house, I would have went straight for the Legacy. I love that car. I test drove an auto wagon (since the wife cannot drive a 5-speed) and was really surprised at the performance. However, if it was going to be mine, I would get the GT sedan in a 5-speed.
