Hi,
Anyone have experience adding a chrome exhaust tip? I measured my '05 exhaust pipe to be 1 5/8. Any recommendations?

Looks great!.... but are they serious about $18 shipping?

Just go to walmart. You can pick one up for under $10, and no shipping. That's where mine came from.

Do you have or know the size or stock # of the Walmart item? I have no problem with the 15 bucks for the tip, but never like paying more for shipping than the mdse. Thanks!

I'm not sure on size. It has your basic adjustable clamps on the back end of it to tighten down to the existing pipe. I'm pretty-sure it's universal. Just walk through the automotive section and you should see several different types that will work.

While we are on the subject, whats the purpose of exhaust tips? is it just for show or does it also serve some useful purpose that can't quiet figure out yet? Also whats the advantage of having intercooled exhaust tips?

the tip keeps ur car quiet, not like a custom cat back exhaust or muffler. maybe someone else can chime in on that. i have a question regarding the tip, how it stays on? i bought one for my hatch back but since the tail pipe faces the ground i cant find one that looks right or stays on :(

as I understand it most tips are either welded on or clamped on.

ya thats what i thought, i had one clamped on and it fell off while i was driving down the highway :(

That's my case too. I have the '05 GT and it is turned down also. That is why I am asking for any success stories. I also want to make sure it doesn't touch or bang against the rear bumper assembly.

i gues it depends on the type of tip you get, im going ahead and getting a muffler even though the noise is louder

Here's a pic I just took of the tip mounted on my car. It's the best I could do. It's held on by 2 clamps that compress from either side of the pipe. (note: this is a 'rice tip' and has no performance value, other than being shiney :))

I think the only tip that'll fit on our crazy exhaust was the one Ilanpro brought up... otherwise if u get one at Wallyworld it'll prolly hit the ground.. I couldn't find any that were short enough...just get a muffler w/ a tip for 30 dollars more

Mine came from Walmart, and it doesn't come close to hitting the ground, even with a lip and loweing springs:

That's not my bumper. It's a lip I put on the rear. Without the lip it would fit fine.
*deep breath and sigh: the only reason I put that on there was when I put on the lip, I didn't provide a place for the exhaust gasses to go. Therefore, I burned a hole in it. Once I did that, I had to cut out the lip so it didn't look like crap. But it looked dumb, so I had to buy a tip to put on there, so it doesn't look wrong. *inhale
Gun5- yes the straight ones work fine. Open the clamps all the way, and slide the tip up higher on the pipe. Then you can get it on an angle rather than pointing straight down.

I'm guessing you were talking to me? I discussed it a little bit in my profile section (click my signature). Also, this link (http://www.elantraxd.com/yabbse/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=8349) will take you to the archives when I first put the whole thing together - although the pictures aren't there anymore, you can get the idea.
