WTF is so "innovative" about the flip and fold seats?
Other than the 5.3L smallblock V8 (303HP, 323lb-ft: 17/27mpg). There is nothing that makes me ever want to own this car.
I know we discussed this and the new Monte Carlo as seen here (http://www.chevrolet.com/montecarlo06/) a while back, but chevy sent me an e-brochure today, so it came back up.
Also, Chevy is advertising the "tire pressure monitor" as one of their features, when the federal government has ruled that ALL new cars must have that.

The seats on my elantra do that... I didnt realize until like a year after i bought the car. So :-P Take that Impala!! haha

I actually have seriouslt thought about a 3.8 Impala. They are quicker than our Elantras and get almost as good a gas mileage for twice the size. 30mpg compared to 33mpg and it rides better for long trips.
It gets my vote.

Why get the 3.8? The 5.3 has 27mpg highway, and then you have a nice big V8.
I imagine the 3.8 will be coming in droves to car rental lots everywhere.

i like the current one the best the nascar looking one. . . i hope this is not what chevy will unvail for their new line of stock car. . . . yuck. the fusion will be the best looking (but weirdest looking too lol) on the track
BobMs_wht2k2

Why the 3.8? Mainly because with a little preventative maintnance they are indestructible. I remember quite a few 3.8s with 250-275k miles running like a champ.
Plus, when treated nicely, 33 mpg is possible.

07-01-2005, 11:55 AM
Yea, I have heard that about the 3.8. I guess it's just that I've never owned an american car that didn't have a V8. It just seems like it's supposed to be an unwritten rule for me... if it's american, it should have 8 cylindars.

Oh, I've had my share of those too. But the 4.3V6 in the trucks had won me over years ago. Plus, I can't buy a 9C1 Caprive anymore, so they don't interest me i guess.

Is that a feature on the '03 GLS too? My housemate and I go to alot of auctions and I can get alot in the car, but the pass thru hole is not very big.
It would be nice if the seats lay flatter.

That 5.3L V8 sounds great but unfortunately with FWD handling is going to be sub-par. Since they are stuck with the FWD platform they should do what Ford did with the Jaguar X-Type & create an AWD set-up. It would add a couple thousand to the sticker but I bet they'd get a lot more sales.

I would almost guarantee they are using a torque mangement program in the ecm to copenste for that too!

just another ugly GM..... no thanks!

I like the current style.

I'm not anti-Gm... I'm anti-GM-late-model. Every car I had before my Elantra was a GM. All my dad ever drove was a GM (of every brand I think). I just don't like their cars after about 1992. Dunno why, but a deep distrust for them for them formed within me.

I wasn't referring to only you, so please don't feel that it was meant as a personal attack. It's just this whole forum tends to have the GM sucks attitude about everything. Kinda rubs me the wrong way. It's like when a moron comes on here and says why mod it, it's only a Hyundai. you know?
ok, ADD ramblings over for now.

yeah, gm's are cool, the cobalt ss won me over after i drove it.
my first car was a 1992 cav that died in 2004, ALMOST driven to the ground, YEAH, Let's see if the elantra I'm driving right now will still be rolling in 2013. I DONT THINK SO! Stop hating on the GM's people, no other cars last that long!

You're kidding right? You want to challenge and say that no car lasts as long as a GM? I bet 1960s VW beetles drove for more years than 1990s GMs will.
But in fairness, we can't apply a blanket policy to hating on GMs, I guess. Since there's many people here who probably don't like Chevy/Pontiac/Buick/Olds, but would in a second take a new Cadillac/Hummer/Saab (not to metion the not available Holden/Opel/Vauxhall), oh and I forgot Saturn and GMC.
Oh, and for those of you who don't know, GM has networked out with the brands of Subaru, Isuzu, and Suzuki.
Now, I know we can't put a H2, a Buick Century, a '70 Camaro, and a WRX in the same catagory to talk about which will last longer... so to specify, I hate Pontiac (had a Grand Prix and Grand Am), Chevy (Had a Camaro), Buick/Olds.
I dislike Saturn
I do not hate Cadillac, Hummer, Saab, GMC, and the foreigners.

Corvette lover for life!!!! I love every model! Even the C6..and don't say it changed cuz of the headlights... BUT GM has to change the styling on their pick-ups... The've been the same for about 12 years. Ford and Dodge improved..Chevrolet changed the front end and tail lights and said vowalah! boooo The SUV ..the E somethin..looks tight..and i love the Trail Blazers.. The cars suck tho...

our seats dont do exactly the same thing. if u look closely the actual seat pulls up and out and the seat back folds down flatter. so its not just a regular rear folding seat.

Actually, GM did an entire redesign in 1999 on all their trucks. The GMT900 (next generation) is slated out for 2007. Considering dodge run it's last body style 10 years, and for 9 years they are right on schedule.
the 99's were "revolutionary" when they came out. They had more options, features and power than everyone else.
I love my truck(s), love the vette, miss the B-bodies (caprice/impala), LOVE my wife's Suzuki (uses GM trans) and have always had fantastic luck with all of our GMs. Most of them were sold with between 185k miles and 310k miles. I think we got our money's worth.

I wouldn't say innovative either, but it's a good adjective that helps sell cars. I tend to like the current Impala a bit better than this new one. I'm not a fan of GM products in general. I had a Saturn SL2 as a rental once and it was pretty bad in all aspects (it being a rental I didn't judge it too much). My girlfriend use to have a 2001 Cav, and it was poop, no major problems, it just felt to cheap (everytime I talk about Cavs I have to mention the cheap *** rubber headrests, wtf?). Now, her Vibe on the other hand is a very nice car (if not a little overpriced), but I think we can thank Toyota for that. The redesign takes a way a little bit of the Japanese flare and makes it look more boring and more like the rest of the boring Pontiacs (excluding the GTO).
I'm a fan of any car that is worth the money to me.

Hatchback models flip and fold.
They do?? Damn! I've owned my car all these years and never realized the seats could be folded completely flat!! I've hauled many big things but I guess I never utilized the hatch to its full capabilities.

The hatchback seat bottoms flip up, like my Santa Fe's do. I know they do. There's pictures on this site (or archives) of them doing that.

No I wasn't being sarcastic... I really didn't know that the seat bottoms fliped up like that. I always just folded the seats and always wondered why they didn't fold down completely.

I didn't even know they had redesigned the Impala for 2006 until I saw one a couple of nights ago. The sad part is that they are built in my area. Ah well, I guess it's just apathy, if it's GM, I just don't care. They make some respectable machinery, Corvette, CTS-V, but I'd still never drive one.
Chevy hasn't built a real Impala since 96 - when are they going to give up on trying to push FWD on everyone. Cops want RWD, GM has lost a mint by dropping the Caprice/Impala and letting Ford have the fleet car market.

I can verify that statement. I was talking to the chief of police about that a while ago. The PD is part of that class-action lawsuit against Ford (for police cars blowing up when run into or something). Anyway, Ford won't sell them any more police cars until the lawsuit is settled. Maintenance cost on those things is huge once they get over a certain milage, so they're pretty much screwed. The Chief doesn't want FWD cars because they chew tires too quickly. They are ok for the state cops on the highways, but with all the turning, etc. that our local cops do on neighborhood patrols, it just doesn't work out. The next town over (where I live) decided F Ford and bought all Dodge SUVs for the entire fleet. If Chevy had a RWD option, they would be gaining hella-sales from all the departmenst running from Ford.

GM does offer the Police package Tahoe. They offered it as a replacement for the Caprice. I know a lot of local and county sheriff's cars that got "overhauled". They were sending them to a place in Northern Indiana(I think) and aving the engines/trans/differentials and front suspensions redone. It cost less than buying a furd and they got to keep the caprice. To this day the 96 9C1 caprice is the fastest 4dr police vehicle to ever patrol the streets. 146mph, full gear, 2 officers.

Yea, we have Tahoes too. They phased out the Ford SUVs with Chevys. However, only Sgts. and higher drive the SUVs. Normal patrol officers have your 'standard' police car.

Makes sense actually with the Crown Vic becoming a quite old design & due to be dropped in a couple more years. The Caprice is long gone & cops need a RWD car with lots of power. Just hope an established record of reliability is out there for the new Charger before they start hitting the streets as cop cars. (Take a lot of abuse)

One thing that might hurt their sales is that cars visibility. I remembered it sucking when I sat in a charger at the auto show. Then again, my perspective is different from the common person's, being I'm 6'4".

I think the reliabilty issue is gonna bite dodge in the butt on this one. Those cars take a lot of abuse and general use. Nothing else in their car lineup is able to take ANY abuse. I can't wait till I see the state trooper broken down on the side of the road!

A Dodge is just as tough as a Ford or a Chevy. The only debate is how long now before they all match Toyota's quality... from a decade ago.
I would almost guarantee they are using a torque mangement program in the ecm to copenste for that too!And just like the super charged GTP's i bet the tranys are maxed out at stock power levels

this might be just me, and i know no one likes the charger because it has 4 doors, but...its still a "sporty car" and therefor the backseat isn't going to hold fat *** gangstaz sellin crack like a bigger car could. even though its rear wheel drive I still don't see this thing on local patrols...
