Hey guys I might be getting a 1990 HOnda Civic Si, it's got a 1.8L integra engine and 5spd with a sunroof, what do all think. It will be my primary car since my brother drives the Elantra all the time now. Any thoughts. BTW it's black.

Can't beat the reliability of a 15 year old modified car as a daily driver... oh wait... yes you can.

I'd be wary.

Wjile that would be a great "play" car, I wouldn't buy it as a dd. Trying to figure which parts to buy when (I didn't say if) it breaks will be a major headache. I deal with that crap on a daily basis. I work at an Acura dealer and see kids who buy a pieced together car. It's not a pretty site.

This is also one of the most stolen cars ever..... I would take anything off that even makes it look like an SI or it won't be around for long. Not to mention all the rice boys stealing your si emblem off your car every other week.

I say go for it, as long as it don't have 40,000,000 miles on it. You may want to try to get a compression check. It is a 15 year old car, but as long as it hasn't been beat to death, it's probably o.k. I know some people that do motor swaps and drive like their racing every minute their on the road. Just make sure you use good judgement and common sense when thinking about buying a car and use your own discretion. Just don't expect to get a car of that age and expect it to be like new. You may have to do a few things here and there like tune-ups and brakes and such more often, but like I said if it has been taken good care of it will probably be fine.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. How much is the seller asking for the car?

Also is it V-tech or non V-tech.

Most SIs are V-Tec

I don't see why the apprehensiveness... I still have my 89 Civic hatch with 250,000 kms on it and still use it every day... Changed the timing belt as recommended, redid the valve clearance at ~150,000 kms. Sure I had to do some maintenance like CV joints, front ball joints, rear shocks but it's not burning oil or anything and runs really smoothly. I'm just worried about rusting out here in the land of salted streets!...
But the Integra engine swap is probably the best know civic mods... it's essentially plug and play (there was some TV tuner show that showed a step-by-step), and you have a more powerful engine on a lighter car than the integra.
If the body is good, and the engine runs, thumbs up!

I'd imagine that its a B18b, as those are cheaper, making it non-vtec.

I honestly think you'd be better off with a stock one, modifying it as needed. you'll never know what type of rigging was done during the swap...until it breaks, that is.

OK... here's the obvious question that everybody else has missed.......

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU BYING AN OLD CAR WHILE YOUR BROTHER DRIVERS YOUR XD!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Thats what I was thinking.

Youre right, but he said it had a motor swap from an integra which means it could be a B18b (ls motor non v-tech), B18c (gsr motor, v-tech), or a type-r motor (b18c5) but im sure it doesn't have that.
Okay, I seemed to have messed the quote thingy up but you get the point.lol

Yep, it is an easy swap. But if you'd seen half of the hack jobs I see on a normal basis you'd know why I won't buy a modded car.

If you cut harnesses and splice them back together with electrical tape to install a CAI, you got a problem there.

Well, the XD is the family car shared between myself and my brother..... but the civic will be just mine not to mention, I'll still be able to drive the XD when he's not using it... plus the civic is super cheap and the engine is a 1.6 non-vtec dohc z.c. engine which is the early INtegra engines.
