Finally did it. I also removed the factory 3rd brake light & replaced it with the cover since I have the spoiler. I should thank SuperGLS as I believe he is the one who hooked me up with the cover. The Hyundai, Elantra & GLS badges were all removed too using the dental floss/ Goo-Be-Gone / Clearcoat polish method. The first shot is right after I got my XD, the other 2 are shots from today now that it is done.

^^^That's my same feeling. On some cars, the debaging looks great. On my car, the debadging would remove some ever-so-valuable-chrome :D

looks good...is your car a dark grey or is it black and just looks faded?

My car is Midnight Grey metallic. I was a little worried that the spots where the old badges were would show through after they were removed due to paint fade (My Elantra was made Oct 2000 so it is an early XD) but fortunately that wasn't the case.

Where can I get a cover like that to replace my 3rd brake in my 2005 GLS?

I got mine from SuperGLS. I think he might have another, you can ask him. He only had tan & my interior was grey. Nothing a can of grey Krylon couldn't solve. You can't tell it was painted once it's installed. Just release the clips for the 3rd light inside the trunk & then lift up, unplug the light socket & install the cover.

Yeah I thought so too but since that's my dads car & he likes it the way it is I decided I better not surprise him. ;)

What did you do!!!
I used everything, from wax to goo gone, no more adhesive, but there is now a "print" of the letters than used to be there.
How can I fix that?

The Goo Gone just gets rid of the adhesive. I still had outlines of the lettering after doing that too. You need some polish such as Nufinish to go over the areas once you are done. That did it for me & my car is 4 1/2 years old. Course it might vary some depending on the color.

^ Yeah, that's true--wax and polish helped a lot. But I used a lot of WD-40 and soapy water until I couldn't even see the outlines anymore. The polish and wax simply made it a bit better.

A Claybar would probably do a pretty good job taking a bite out of that stuff too (followed up by polish and wax).

Today I took time to remove the pin stripe from the side of my car. It just peeled off & I used the same procedure, can't even tell it was there. The pin stripe was dealer added when the car was sold new. I wasn't real keen on it not to mention it was scratched in a few spots. Looks much better without it.

Pinstripe = LAME. I don't like them on any car. Good call on takin' it off.

Impressive...how long did it take you to goo-gone and re-touch, etc.

The 3 trunk badges took probably 15 minutes tops from start to finish, not very long at all. The pin stripes took longer because it was on all 4 doors & all 4 fenders. It took close to 45 minutes to get them peeled off, get rid of the goo & wax.
