...and possibly coming to a state near you.
It is now illegal to HAVE any TV or Monitor in front of the front seats of the car. Doesn't matter if it's turned on or off. If you have a monitor in your dashboard = illegal. If you have flip down monitors from your sunvisors = illegal.
just thought I'd share. I heard the story on the TV news this morning, but haven't seen an article or anything yet.

I believe that's been the law in Pennsylvania for at least 15 years -- no monitors/TVs in view of the driver.

Dunno, like I said, I haven't seen the law yet, just heard about it on the news. It has always been law that you couldn't have one 'on' while driving, if it is in view of the driver. I guess this just expands on that saying you can't have one in view of the driver if it's off or on.

hmm.... there are dozens of cars that come with those huge dash-mounted lcd screens with all sorts of stuff on them... including the honda accord...
I don't know what the details of law are, however I'm certain that if the car includes it as standard equipment, they can't say anything about it.

:headshake :headshake No no you're wrong. If you live in Illinois you have to go back to the dealer and have your 3,500$ nav system pulled out of the dashboard and replaced with a big plastic block-off plate that says "All law-makers are reactionary assholes" on it! LOL What a world we live in huh? I have got to see the details on this one...

I'm sure that stock parts or GPS nav are not the subject of this law. They're outlawing tv/video monitors (for watching TV/DVD movies, etc.), not just screens in general. This really isn't anything new. Most aftermarket screens have a motion lockout so that if the car is in gear and/or moving, the video display will shut off. When I installed the Euro-Spec TV tuner in my Mercedes, I noticed that my stock nav screen would only display TV in park - once I started moving I could still hear the sound, but the picture would go away.
This is actually a law already in most states. In California, you're not allowed to have a TV in view of the driver - that's why they come with motion lockouts. Maybe this law is a response to people hacking them and enabling TV in motion...
in FL you can't have any screen other than STOCK GPS that is visable to the driver. All Drop downs we sell are replacing the dome light and cannot be seen.
PPL get killed from that...
not that I'm one to talk or anything ;)

Ha! Everything can be bypassed. My buddy just got a navy with dvd player and all that good stuff and he watches movies while he's driving... stupid though...

I think it's a great idea. Anything that takes the drivers attention off the road is a BAD idea. Most people don't pay attention anyway, so give them a TV to watch and they become a menace to everyone on or near the road.

The laws don't mean you can not have a monitor in your dash, it just is that it can not display moving pictures or video in view of the driver while the car is moving. GPS nav systems are not illegal. Hence if they were they would not be installed from the factory
Its a good idea. You dont need a tv in the front anyway.

You obviosuly didn't read his post. It states that the NEW law says you can no longer even HAVE one visable to the driver, forget on or off. He blatatanly said that...

i wouldnt live in that state. we should all research the best state to live in and move there. give our taxes to a state that is actually somewhat decent to live in without gay *** laws.
and for all the supporters.. its not about people watching movies when they drive. its about more reasons for cops to pull u over, more reasons not to get inspection passes, and more reasons for u to send ur hard earned cash to them

Police were righting tickets to STI owners for having the rearview mirror blocked. and that the wing was illegal and the courts even with it being a factory part were standing by the cops. check some sti boards and do a search I remember seeing a post a while ago maybe this time last year.

I don't know VA law, but in Illinois if you block the rearview with anything, or have a tinted rear window, you have to have side mirrors on both sides of the car - which luckily all cars come with... I guess VA is stupider than Illinois, which I wasn't sure was possible.

Of course you have to look at how often selective enforcement comes into play. In VA for example under the old blue laws it is illegal to have sex with your wife in any position except the missionary. That and under VA law consensual co-habitation is technically illegal. Those are two examples of laws that are NEVER enforced. (unless of course they are already heaving the book at you for other things) I agree that having a TV in view of the driver is probably a really bad idea, but for Gods sake stop trying to legislate common sense!
