How does everyone like the 06' Eclipse? I've never been huge on Eclipse's, but the new one is kinda cool. The new motor their advertising in commercials seems pretty beast.

definitely nay. I saw one on the way to work this morning. It looked like it was driving in reverse.

Kinda like the cars from that tom cruise movie...

The only car that can use that body style is the TT Quattro... sorry Mitsubishi

Its pretty much the same specs as the engine for the new Azera.

They are heavy *** cars, with 265hp they only go from 0-60 in 6.1 seconds

And they suck the gas like they're bred from suv's. I personally think th car looks fat. Not phat, but overweight. A sports compact should be just that. A sporty compact car. Not 3400lbs of lard hanging out over the tires.

I agree, it's nothing too exciting.

There are plenty of other cars to dislike more than it though.

Wow! 0-60 in 6.1 sec. for a 260 and some odd horsepower motor really sucks. Like I said before I've never been a big fan of Eclipse's, but I have to say, I like this bodystyle better than the 00'-05's. I personally though, think that the 2nd gen. 95'-99's look the best. They probably have been the best performers too.

i only liked two body styles of the eclipse: last year's style and the style before that. i'm sorry but all these giant egg looking cars really turn me off. what are all the car designers doing.. taking ideas from the jetsons?

NAY!!!!!! mitsu (especially the eclipse) has always been bad about loosing a LOT of power in the drive train. Haven't been a good eclipse since the mid 90's with turbos

I agree, I think the best body style was the '99 Eclipse GSX. From what I've seen of them on TV, I still think that the new look on the '06 is better than the '00-'05s, too. Of course, I liked the new Celica on TV until I saw how goofy it looked in person.

I don't like it much either. The side windows are too vertical, giving the car a wide, fat stance. Plus the window frames are huge, and it makes it look like a kit car or something. If Mitsubishi survives and makes a convertible, I bet that it will look a lot better.

butt-ugly...and by that I mean the rear bumper is the worst part, imo.

I'm really tired of the same nose job they are putting on every Mitsu. The Evo is the only car that looks good, in their lineup.

I agree, but I do kinda like the new Galant.

Yeah I heard about that on Speed channel. Before we know it, certain Mitsu cars will have the same reputation as certain Dodge cars, POS

Second Gen's were the best Eclipse. Well evn 1st gens too cuz they came with Turbo's. After they eliminated the Turbo (3rd gen) forget about it. My Friend had a bad-*** 2nd gen. Used to house my other friends S/C Mustang and even some Motorycles. Remember Ford??

As I was driving home last night with the wife, we passed a 2nd Gen on the highway and I said, there's the only eclipse I like. 1st gen was ok, but 2nd gen just looked the best. I hated the previous encarnation, and the new one isn't high on the list... maybe it will grow on me, but I stand behind my previous statment = Chic car.

I agree with the chic car. But, I also think the tib fits that catagory too. Too feminine for my taste and not enough manly horsepower.

I remembered seeing the new Eclipse prototype in a car magazine and at the time I thought it looked cool, but the production vehicle really disappointed me. I agree that the '95-'99 were the best looking, but I don't know about best performer.

In terms of modding the car, you had the biggest choice of parts to pick from with those years and I would probably say that besides the Integra/Civics back then, the Eclipses were the 3rd most modded rides I saw down here. The only problem was their reliability and nowadays I hardly see them on the road, at least the ones that were modded.

Yeah the older DSM's were prone to have problems.

They should've developed a good AWD system to go with the V6 MIVEC. This is just an assumption, but on-the-limit handling on the new Eclipse will probably be quite scary with all that nose weight. They also shouldn't have tried the whole Porsche Boxster ***=face thing.
I really don't know much about the car so it's just an opinion, but Mitsu should've definetly taken their time to think this one out.

Well Im sure they thought it out quite a bit. I think they probably could have done a little better on the final decision.lol

Since it's FWD only & non-turbo with all that weight it's going to be a lousy performer overall IMHO. I suspect the majority of them will be automatics too. :nono:

Does the new 2006 Eclipse&Galant engine (aka the 4G69) the 2.4L MIVEC i4 = the Sonata's 2.4L CVVT? Are they both considered the "Theta" engine developed by the GEMA (Chrylser, Hyundai & Mitsu)?

http://www.mitsucars.com/MMSA/jsp/eclipse/features_specs.jsp?t=mechanical
Mitsu MIVEC 2.4 : 162 @ 6000 162 @ 4000

http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/sonata/specs/specs.aspx
CVVT 2.4 : 162hp@5800 164tq@4250

They both have several different specs but I'm wondering if they were both involved in the "world engine" project.

I think this was talked about over on HP. I don't remember the outcome, perhaps a search over there would yeild some results (or on a Mitsu board? maybe?).

CTele02
12-24-2005, 12:06 AM
Yes I've been looking on a Mitsu board and they say the new 2.4L Mivec is called the 4G69 which is an updated version of the older 4G63.... I'm just wondering if this engine had anything to do with the Theta since that would be kinda cool. Plus I looked all over the mitsu site and I saw no signs of concepts that would use the "world engine."

Some HP finds:

http://hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=59498
http://hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=68877 (Dodge Caliber)
http://hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=68865 (EVO X)
http://hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=65703
I guess it doesn't use the Theta:
http://hyundaiperformance.com/forums/topic.php?t=64926

But the theta is most likely coming out turboed on the caliber and evoX... meaning interchangeable performance parts..... (get my drift?)
