I have some questions for adding a gas strut lifter arm to the hood.
1- Would I be OK with just one?
2- What kind/how powerful should I get?
3- What's the weight of the XD's GT hood?
4- Anyone did this already? If yes, factory attaching points that can be used?

the weight is somewhat irrelevant, since the point at which you attach a strut, and the angle that the strut is with respect to the hood when it is open will also determine how strong of a strut you need. remember basic physics. as a start, why not pick up a strut to a santa fe or sonata hood?
you also need to make sure you have a place to mount the strut, both to the hood and to the car. there may not be a suitable place.

Ooo... Great idea! I might have to do some experimenting and see if this can be done. I really miss that feature. My last 2 cars had it, and I got spoiled. Of course, with my schedule, it'll probably be months before I can get to taking a look at it. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out which weekend I'm going to wax the darn thing. I think it's gonna be like a month before I can even do that. Oh, well. Life is hectic. What can you do?

I will try today. Wish me luck.
Pysics... 45deg. angle will reduce they weight by two! :)

Spelling... Physics > Pysics.
This is not a new idea... has been brought up before, and I think successfully carried out - just hasn't been discussed in a while.
[shameless self-promotion]I've got 2 gas struts for sale in the marketplace (12" and 15") for $10/shipped each, if anyone is interested.[/shameless self-promotion]

Here's a newbie question...
Is all you need to make this work a strut? Do you need any electrical?

Yep it is.
Hyunelan, I would've bought the strut from you, but you wrote that some other dude has dibs.
I will check the prices in my neighborhood tomorrow. Question: why didn't you finish your project?

If it all turns out well, post a DIY with lots of pics so that we might be able to do the same thing!!!!

Alright... So far I didn't have luck finding some OEM placement bolts, but tomorrow I will look into it with a more imaginative eye. I can take the easy way out and install little brackets, but I want to make this accessible to anyone B)
