So I was reading through the Powerpages in this months Import Turner mag. They are doing tests on Hondas B16 engine. Heres some #s on it.

An engine dyno was performed on it with stock head and cams. (NOTE B18C1 block, Wiseco flat-top pistons 10.7:5 CR, Skunk2 67mm TB with Skunk2 IM and 370cc inj, Skunk2 adj cam gears intake +3 deg & exh +3.5 deg)
BASELINE: 212hp 167tq

They added a Hondata piggyback next, no dyno run was performed here.

Next was a set of Skunk2 Pro +2 cams (268 deg)
244hp 178tq
2000-3500 RPM: 0-9hp
3500-5500 RPM: 9-27hp
5500-redline RPM: 27-32hp (WOW)

Last is a CNC machined head (engine reved to 8500 RPM!)
258hp 181tq


So in conclusion, thats a pretty stout N/A motor, yeilding a gain of 46hp and 14tq with $2800 in upgrades. I know that Dmdicks has had his head ported for a turbo application, from seeing a bare head I believe that there is much power to be gained from our engine with a little exhaust side work and a nice set of cams. But these numbers are stagering when you think of how small the B16 engine is.

ya theres some nice honda engines out there my friend has a turbo honda (new block new everything (turbo block now - > first original one blew) stage 3 turbo now) he's mad crazy he's selling it to because he likes his fast bike

Yeah, thats a pretty hefty motor. 258hp. is awesome. I wish someone with a BetaII would get their head ported and polished for N/A application along with some cams as you said. It would be great to see the potiental that our motors are capable of naturally aspirated. I know we can get good numbers with boost, but who can't. I've just always liked and respected cars more that are built all motor. Im pretty certain that we will not see those kind of gains all motor, but I think that 150-160whp. is within reason of what our motors can do. So come on somebody with more money than I have (lol), how bout it?

my buddy used to have a crx w/ a b16 in it. he was running mid 13s all motor, n/a, no nitrous

I do have a second head in my basement but its a bare head, I have a nice set of cams. Like you said its about getting the money for some head work. I would like to build up my engine as far as possible NA before I boost it. I went no bigger with my cams than 272 for that reason.
