Is it just me or do the Ealantra 5-door and Saab 9-3 look a lot alike? I was actually considering buying a 9-3, but was worried about reliability issues (they are horrible) and when I saw the Elantra GT 5-door I had an "uh-huh" moment. I wonder if the viggen body kit could be made to fit the Elantra.

LOL, My bad. You have to realize though that I've never even seen an Elantra 5-door on the road before, so it's still new to me.

The new Saabs are now built on the Epsilon platform from GM. I have hears a lot of good things about them. One of our neighbors before we moved had a new one. He had about 48k miles on in a year and a half without even changing tires.

Aren't you in OC as in Orange County, California? The Hyundai USA HQ is located in Fountain Valley, right near the Fry's Electronics. I hardly ever saw the 5 door XD when I got mine for about the first 2 years, but it's getting a lot more common now.

Yeah they are very similar, but imo the Elantra GT looks better!!!

Not to mention much cheaper with a better warranty, and so far better reliability!

Yup, Orange County. You would think that you would see more of these on the road considering their headquarters are around here.

Haha, good call, like mentioned, you are a little late.

So did you get the Elantra or not? If so, congrats.

GTSTISL... I'll send you more pics in a bit, it's the Mussa kit if that helps.

wow, that's pretty cool. I wish that I was smart enough to see what the saab guys were saying about it.

alls I can come up with from looking at the thread on the saab website is: darn, I'm glad that I changed to the short shifter, that stock one looks awful.

Thats cool. I'm suprised they dont have a poser type kit available you know knock off emblems and such to make it look exactly alike. I'm sure you could sell it off to the dealer as the saab editon or some bs like that

let a couple of those guys know while we lack stock turbos, im sure there are quite a few people that will give them a run for their money

and the saab 93 aero is probably on my top 5 best looking cars

yeah, a stock turbo at 190 isn't that great. (Better than no stock turbo and 130, but still). And Evan, DJ KITTY freaks me out...just so you know.

What car company's designs don't take after the popular market of the day though. I for one think it's cool that the EGT looks like a saab. Nothing wrong with it.

Maybe, but stock V stock, we own you. ;) (all in fun)

What are we saying about you guys?!? Nothing bad, that's for sure. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Don't some of your cars have a hatchback? Yea, after Saab in thier wisdom drops the revered hatchback because supposedly they don't sell... then here comes the Elantra with a hatch and selling well. @ Saab.

Bah! The 9-3 VIGGEN is the shiznit for me. hehehe

So far there's no hatchback for the new (HD) '07 Elantra, only sedans. The 01-03 Hatch is what looked most like a Saab. It was facelifted slightly for 04-06. The thing that really made the "GT" hatchback look like a Saab was the black molding contrasting the car color. The GLS sedan model had body-matched molding and didn't really have the same resemblence that the hatchback did.

About all I know of modern Saab is it's owned by GM, and one of them is similar to the Subaru Impreza.

i cant dig a hatchback. im not thrilled with it when i got my integra, but i can deal with it for the performance/tuning aspect

that 9-3 viggen is nice... but honestly, I think the red elantra in the above picture is nicer (to look any anyways). Performance wise though, I know it's a different story.

I drove my friends Saab once, even stock it is a NICE car.

And quick as ****.

honestly i haven't been impressed with any saabs from a performance perspective though i must admit they are nice cars.

Spoken just like someone whose never driven one, Cypher. It really IS true what they say. Those that test drive a Saab, usually buy one. If you would have told me 5 years ago I would have TWO Saabs today, I'd have bet my paycheck you'd be wrong... and that Viggen model? 235HP 268 FT LBS of Torque. A 4 cylinder, getting 27 MPG and 235 HP?!?!? THAT is a performance model, my friend. It has more displacement per litre then a Porsche 911.

Evan, I can't imagine NOT having hatch, now. In 5 years of Saab hatch ownership I have only needed to borrow a friends SUV ONE time. ;)

Have to admit that red one is pretty damn sweet. GORGEOUS color! Is that an OEM color? I'd take the Viggen over it every time, though. The Viggen has these special racing seats you just have to sit in to believe! :D

That one that is similar to the Subaru ( 9-2 ) has been discontinued for 07. Didn't do real well without the rebates. GM screwed up there.

i'ves driven saabs before. don't be so quick to judge.

The 9-3 ranges in price from $26K-$42K. At the cheapest level, it's a about 2x (or more) what the lookalike Elantra GT cost. I don't think there's anyone here who will [sanely] argue the Elantra is a 'better' vehicle, except possibly in value.

In the same pricerange, however, there should be cars out there that are capable of blowing the 9-3 out of the water when we talk performance. So obviously those who buy a 9-3, buy them because they like the car not because it is the highest in the performance bracket. You really can't argue 'like'.

I have to agree that Saab seats are like sitting in a bucket of margarine. That's a good thing, a really good thing.

I may be retarded.... but in my eyes, they look just similar not alike...
and I don't understand why ppl say mean things about this... I never said toyota is being cheap when they got the new sedan Echos out that look A WHOLE LOT like one of the old accents my uncle used to have like 10 years ago in Korea...
