I have an escort from 1996 that my dad got me for my 16th birthday (heehee) that detects laser, K and X bands radar. Works every time -- on the highway. See, in PA, they don't use radar on anything but the interstates, basically. So yeah, if you get caught speeding by a cop using VASCAR or the like, hopefully you can come up with a creative use of Google maps to save your *** (http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/news/article/google_maps_helps_fight_traffic_tickets_07160942/) or just suck it up and accept responsibility for getting caught breakin' the law.

A radar detector can help avoid a ticket. A laser detector can at least reduce your ticket's fine. But when you're up against a cop with a stopwatch, you're usually S.O.L.

Yea, most highway troopers will pace you. That is where they will be driving at the same speed as you, usually in the next lane over. You don't think you've done anything wrong, because the officer seems to be minding his own business in the lane next to you, traveling at the same speed. Then all of a sudden he pulls you over for speeding. On your ticket, it will say that the method he used was "pacing". In these instances, and in my opinion almost always highway instances, a radar detector is worthless.

I use the Passport 8500, and I love it. The Valentine is a great detector too, but it is not a jammer. For the most part jammers don't really work, until you get into the $400-$500 + range. The best way to avoid a ticket is to do the speed limit +5 mph. You might want to also to a search here on EXD, this has been covered a few times already.

Not sure but i believe jammers are illegal. Beyond that hope you got some bucks to part with. Have heard good ones are not cheap. Or you could try not driving warp speed.

Actually, passive radar and laser interference devices are perfectly legal in MOST states. Active jamming is illegal in every state because it can interfere with other, far more important communications equipment. Check your state's laws regarding passive interference devices such as these radar "jammers" that are being sold. Usually, the website of the company selling these devices will not allow you to buy one if you live in a state where their products are illegal.

The new PHANTOM ™ C410 is the only high performance 360° radar and laser detector combined with a front 180° top quality radar and laser scrambler in one sleek package. The detector compared favorably with the best detectors in the market. The scrambler makes your car invisible to both radar and laser and works so well it is backed by one-year manufacturer ticket rebate guarantee. You get a ticket, The manufacturer will pay it go to www.jammerstore.com

I read an article awhile back about detectors and how they are mostly useless because by the time the radar pulse/laser beam hits the detector, it has already hit your car (front end or backend) first and is returning to the "gun". There are a few detectors that you put sensors out on the bumper or hood/trunk to compensate for this.

Any detecting/jamming device is primarily used as cover around a group of other drivers. If you're alone on the highway, a radar detector is fairly useless. And at the same time a jammer is incredibly stupid to operate while alone on the highway. A cop will know right away that you have one and bust you for it. They are illeagle in most states.

Actually, in most states, passive interference devices are legal. However, keep in mind that if you do get pulled over with one, the officer will probably write you as many tickets as he possibly can for as many violations as he can pull out of his ***. Cops HATE detectors, so I can't even imagine the response you'd get were you pulled over and had a jammer.

Heh, yeah, the first thing I do when I get pulled over is take down the detector and hide it.
