Hmm. Adds some fuel to the rumors that the Pontiac GTO is going to be rebuilt as the sister car to the new Chevy Camaro/Chevelle (the GTO is a rebadged Manaro).

It is sad.
However, I really doubt overseas production will stop, there is still a lot of interest in the car in foreign markets.
Apparently HSV will release one final 'Monaro-based coupe' as well but with the 427 (7L) and rated at 400kw (536hp). There is only expected to be 120 of these made and it is due to be released in September.
Not to mention of course the Holden Monaro CV8-Z, special edition.
I'm hoping that the next concept Holden puts forward is the Torana.

LOL!
Okey dokey, "monaro-based coupe" then... ;)
hey I know, who am I to fly in the face of popular opinion? ppl call the the four doors, `HSV Commodores, and they`re not really are they? HSV is `supposedly` a separate entitiy to GMH, or was till Tom Walkinshaw went leg up.. wonder what he`s doing now? The numbers are interesting, 11,000 here and 30,000 over seas... Atleast I hope its been a better export than the ford crapi convertible was! I will say that` HSV coupe` doesnt show a lot of imagination in naming does it.. More than I could spend on a car though, they shoulda made dunger taxi models like they did with the original HK monaro :P

Nah mate, I'm wasn't having a go at ya, thanks for pointing it out. :)
Yeah, I know what you mean about HSV's naming creativity.
That being said, the "maloo" is a great name. Great looking ute too.
I'm not old enough to remember them having monaro taxis! Thanks for the info.
I haven't heard anything about Walkinshaw for a good 3 years since his team went into liquidation, and a quick google didn't turn anything up either.
My father ( here we go, eye`s rolling ) bought an HK wagon brand new in 1968, I wasnt born for the FB, so this was the first new car I had anything to do with, it was packed with real austerity; lino instead of carpet, no radio, no frickin heater! no synchro on first, and ( which was rare, really ) it was solid commercial green, no white roof, but we thought we were king **** till saturday morning going to nan`s and I saw two 327 monaro`s side by side, a red one and a yella one. Talk about deflated ego. But you could buy a monaro just as povo as that wagon, ppl did too and holden didnt like it, stole sales from the 4 door kingswood. Hard to beleive there`s only 10,000 `new` mango`s gettin a round, seems that many of them around here where I live. The torana dream car looks okay, I just wish that if the lineage has ceased, dont reserect the old name. But its too late now isnt it? Remember the EB GT falcon? that was a slap in the face. Still, I wouldnt buy any of them, so what I think doesnt matter......
