That's a really good review ... I'm in for either a Sonata or Azera for my next car when the XD runs out of steam. I was pushing towards a WRX wagon but I am having my head sensibly twisted back to the reality of driving a family around. Now only if they had a sport wagon or hatchback version of the Sonata I'd be in heaven.

Another immensely positive review.
The july sales were pretty good with 9,768 Sonatas sold. I wouldn't imagine half of them or better were the NF's. There are plenty EF's at dealers still with prices hard to pass up.
I bet sales sky rocket for the Sonata near the end of the year.

You guys all know if I had to get a car today, it would be a Deepwater Blue Sonata LX, package 3. ...although lately the thought of returning to an American V8 keeps running through my head.
Good to see another + to the Sonata Review column.

Dumb newbie question: What does "NF" and "EF" stand for? :confused:

NF and EF are the same thing for the Sonata as XD is for the Elantra. It is just the 'model number' to Hyundai. The NF is the new 2006 Sonata. The EF/EF2 is the previous model.

NF = 2006+ Sonatas
EF = Last generation of Sonatas, which I think is 1999-2001 are EF, and 2002-2005 are EF2's.
Like the current Elantra is the XD (2001-2003 for XD, and 2004-2006 for XD2). The XD, EF, NF, X3, GK, RD, LC, etc are all Hyundai given. We in the aftermarket community kind of put the LC2, EF2, XD2 designations together because all of the Hyundai models go through a mid cycle facelift with some design changes, so we use the "2" to seperate them.

Thanks - all clear now :)
That's what I like about this site - there is always someone with an answer!

Isn't it the chassis code that initiates the change in the 2 character designation ??? That's the way it work on most other manufacturers (not always 2 characters though)
