Is there an alternative source besides the dealer for the interior air filter? Their price is $44.00 OUCH.

Make your own, i got a washable filter from home depot for 15 dollars. I got the biggest, which allows me to make 4 filters. It works pretty good, have excellent filtration properties. take a bit more work, making a template, but its well worth the hassle.

That sounds like a good idea. What are the dimensions of the filter?

shark racing sells a 3M brand replacement for $38 SHIPPED.

OR, buy a fram filter, number CA5057. this fits on three sides perfectly. a little trim on one end makes it fit just fine. you can even use a litte A/C installation foam strip on the cut end to seal it up nicely. this alternative will cost you $10 as opposed to $38 or more.

good luck

how do you get to this filter?
Take the glovebox out, and remove the bracket directly behind it. Two screws will remove it. Then release the clips on the front of the box and you're there. I don't know about your car, but mine doesn't have one in it at all. Never has. The dealer told me that it is an option, and mine doesn't have it. Oh well. If you are replacing it to get rid of a gross smell, chances are, it won't help. What will is to not run the A/C on Max all of the time. Dealer told me that and it has worked like a champ so far.

I saw the news last year in Korea and those filters are bad.
They tested 13 brand and only 1-2 brand passed.
Even 3M failed.
I bought those filters in Korea for $8 shipped from the company passed the test.
When I was installing that, I freaked out.
There was no filter on my 03 XD GT.
You guys wanna check the filter exist or not.
I was so disappointed to Hyundai that time.
I posted about this on Korea XD forum and they freaked out too because they all have it.
May be only me. I hope...

U.S. XD's don't come with the filter installed. probably a cost-saving decision.
