FYI: I was just browsing www.crutchfield.com and found that they've got a set of Blaupunkt TSC 660 component speakers on sale for $39.99 ($45.98 with shipping), originally $109.99 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SjCHGYNT7dq/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=76500&I=023TSC660). As those of you who are familiar with component systems know, until recently you couldn't touch a good set of components for under $150.

The next closest price at Crutchfield would be the Audiobahn 2062N's for $99.99...

I snagged a set for myself already; :) those of you who wanted a better-than-factory sound might want to do the same soon; who knows how long these will be on sale...

Not sure you could really argue that they are better than stock.

Blaupunkt hasn't made a good speaker in quite a few years.

For $39.99, I'll give them a try. They can't be too bad.

Hey, I ordered these for the front door and top clearance is 2 3/16".
Anyone know if they will fit in the '03 hatch front door without cutting a larger hole ? Is the depth a problem? Crutchfield advises this is a no-fit for our cars.
Also, what's the wiring set up with the new tweeters and crossovers? I've got the fronts already amped so I guess all wiring must be at the door, no need to run new h/u ar amp wires? does the current tweeter have a crossover?
C'mon Southpaw, step up!!

The depth should be fine -- there's a plastic ring in our doors that extends inside the metal interior frame by about 1/2", and there's a few inches of clearance behind that. I had some funky midranges in there at one point that were VERY deep, and they fit OK; I think they'll fit fine in the front doors. Worse case scenario, they'll fit in the rear package shelves.

As far as the wiring goes, the GT front door wires split; one pair runs to the tweeter, the other to the woofer; there is no crossover on the factory speakers (just a capacitor on the tweeter). For the Blaupunkt units, only use one of the sets of wires and run them to the crossover that come with the Blaupunkts.

Here are the same ones in 6 1/2" size that Crutchfield says will fit http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZeQJSJ2HrEk/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=410&I=023TSC650

Kyle,
thanks. so the original wire is a bridge to both speaker and tweeter. I'll have to make patches from crossover to new speaker and tweeter? also, anyone think these are worth using over OEM door speakers? i,m hearing Bpunkt knocked but they gotta be better than OEM when amped right??

My wife's GLS had the factory CD with tweeters and it didn't sound all that bad. I really doubt that these Blowpunkts will improve on that very much.

I wouldn't be surprised if the midbass output drops significantly no matter how much power you run to them. There is a reason those speakers are going for so low. You get what you pay for and I haven't seen anything positive about blowpunkt speakers in a few years.

One could spend another $50-100 and get something that will blow these cheap ole, see through, China made, noise makers, out of the water.

Personally I'd save up and raise another hundy before I'd waste $50 on these.

Dapert -- why don't we wait and see how these sound before you keep knocking them? Have you ever actually heard these particular speakers? Neither have I. At least they have true crossovers rather than just a single capacitor on the tweeter. At least they're not Jensen.

The reason they're "giong so low" is because they've been discontinued in favor of the 2005-2006 Blaupunkt speakers.

Geez... how many of your first 35 posts have been negative? Remember the old saying "If you don't have anything nice to say..."

If you really hate Blaupunkt so much, why not go start a thread in the Flame section rather than continuing to clog up this thread?

According to this, six of the seven people who posted here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5O92R43YtxW/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=023TSC660&id=review#Tab liked them.

Back on topic -- I currently have the Tiburon JBL front woofers and tweeters in my Elantra, which sound better than the stock Elantra GT speakers (which weren't all that bad), so I'll have a good basis for comparison.

Bbuzzard21... I think you'll be able to use a short piece of speaker wire with crimp-on small blade terminals to connect to the factory woofer wire in the doors. The tweeter wire can just be left unplugged. The wiring from the X-over to the tweeter and woofer should be included with the package. I'll put them in when they arrive and let you know how it goes.

I have heard these speakers, as I sell them also. Spend your money on something else.

You have your opinion and I have mine.

I've been involved in car audio for 20 years so I'm not just talking out my ***.

It's no secret that lower end Blaupnkt has been poor at best for several years now.

I never you're an idiot for bying them I just said don't expect them to sound that great.

I make no excuses for my opinion and I stand behind my suggestion for people to spend a little more and get a higher quality product.

Bluerush sells them and says to buy something else too but I guess he's just flaming too.

Thanks for your opinion, but not all of us have $150+ for a higher end set of speakers, can't afford MB Quart, Boston Acoustics or other high end audio, and are just looking for something that sounds better than stock (since the rears in the XD hatch are mids only, the TSc660's will probably sound best back there).

Bluerush stated that he has actually heard them, so he's giving first-hand info on how they sound.

here is a link to the 6x9s that match these

Thanks Gman; so if someone with a GLS wants the matching rear 6X9's, those are it.

Kyle,

Will you give an honest opinion of them when you get them installed?

I read reviews and most say they are pleased compared to the factory.
Then there are people who say they are worthless. From what I've seen those who don't like them are comparing them to other quality speakers they've used.

The natural tendancy is for people to try to defend their choices so for curiosity sake I'd like to hear an honest review of them overall and not just compared to the factory units.

I would recommend a set of Memphis 15-PRC6's in the front and some 15-PR92's in the rear. Those are a set of 6.5" components for the front, with crossovers, and a set of 2-way 6"x9"'s for the rear. Awesome sound for the money! Your talkin' $200 for the whole shabang.

They arrived a while back and they look OK, but I don't think the thin woofer cone material will handle a whole lot of bass. The magnet on the woofer is pretty hefty, though.

I'll probably end up installing these on a friend's Prius some time over the next few months. I don't feel like ripping off my front door skins again and taking out my JBL front speakers to put these in, and I've already got a set of PPI rear 6-3/4" that match nicely.

Sure, I'd be glad to let you know how they sound. If they're crap I'll certainly let you know. I don't have any feelings one way or the other towards Blaupunkt, other than at least they're a name-brand, unlike Pyramid or Boss or other pseudo-names.
