Default Wiring Diagrams For Hooking Up Subs To Amps

Since i've seen post after post on how to hook up 1,2,3 and even 4 subs together and get different Ohms outputs. Heres what i have made for all of ya. I hope you will find these helpful, if ya have any questions dont hesistate to PM me and ask. Oh yes before i forget ----> BEFORE HOOKING UP THE SUBWOOFERS TO THE AMP PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR AMP IS RATED FOR THE OHM LOAD YOU PUT ON IT TO AVOID OVERHEATING AND/OR DAMAGE TO YOUR AMP.

    *EDIT*
All of the links and pics were dead. For now its just easiest to go HERE:

Ok.. what about 1 speaker with DVC @ 4 ohm load? Alpine 10" type S, and alpine 5 channel amp. Or is it supposed to be 8 ohms combined, so each voice coil gets 4 ohms?

I'm a little confused about this, too... I asked the techs at Best Buy how I'd want to have this all hooked up, and to what amp they reccommended, and I came away even more confused.

I'm going to be running two 10" DVC 4ohm (175W RMS) in separate enclosures.
If my thinking is correct, I'll want to get a 2ch amp, stable at 2ohms? Wire each sub on its own channel, from an amp that puts out roughly 2 x 175-180W RMS @ 2ohms?

The techs were telling me I'd only want to run a big (350-400W RMS) mono amp, in "series parallel", whatever that means. The tech said with each sub wired at 8ohms, it would give a final load of 4ohms to the amp.

I'm confused as to why a mono amp would be better? (other than making them more money, for a more expensive amp?) I want to make the wiring as clean and uncluttered as possible, because of the dual enclosures, and maintaining my cargo area.

    LOL THATS IDIOT TALK

    Series in ONE THING

    Parallel is ANOTHER

If they told you they will be wiring it in series parallel, then CHANGE SHOPS lol

That's kinda what I was thinking. I was bored in town, so I figured I'd ask Best Buy... Plus they said they'd install stuff I bought elsewhere, but then I heard on s10forum from guys that WORK at BB that they're prohibited to do that, by corporate....

So, I'm correct in thinking my 2ch amp theory will work?

nope, asfar as i know, normal 2ch amps that have 2 ohm stable marked on them have 4 ohm channels, but are <stable> to bridging to 2 ohm, so it would not work

what you should do is bridge them and wire them in parallel (have each + and - on the subs going to the furthermost + and - plugs on the amp), it would give out your power in 2 ohm.

One question though: how is a DVC sub 4 ohm?

Each coil is 4ohm, giving the sub a final load of 2ohm.
So, that would require running wires from the amp to one sub, and then across to the other sub? I guess if there's no efficient way to get around that, I'll deal with it...

nonono what you are describing is in series.

run a search on bridging, you will find some old thread by OPZ

ok, thats what i though about the sub

Okay, I found the thread by OPZ, but I'm still kinda confused... I'm going to wait until I have the subs in hand to decide which amp to get, and I'll figure it out from there. But if I recall correctly, OPZ was working with a 4ch Sony amp, whereas I'd be going with a higher quality 2ch that's 2ohm stable... I'm not needing it to be 1ohm stable, so that opens up a lot more options for amps... Heck, I might just spring for the JL slash series amps, and go with something like the 500/1. Expensive, but impressive.

It looks like this sticky is dead since the initial diagrams are gone, but just in case someone read this trying to learn something, I wanted to post.

There is in fact such a thing as series/parallel and it was probably covered in one of the diagrams that was there, but not named correctly. Example:

    You have:

1 two channel AMP 4 ohm mono/2 ohm stereo stable
    4 4 ohm subs.

Two ways to run this to get max power from amp:

    1)
Two subs in parallel to each channel - - - you are running the amp 2 ohm stereo.

    2)
Subs #1 and #2 in series. This equals 8 ohms.
Subs #3 and #4 in series. This equals 8 ohms.

Now you can basically say you have two 8 ohm subs. One set of + and - wires from each pair of subs. If you metered these wires, they would show 8 ohms. You will now want to parallel these two wires for a 4 ohm load.

This is a series parallel configuration.

Click here put how many woofers you have, and their impedance and "show wiring options." Shows all different types of wiring options, and the final impedance to the amplifier. Have fun

I got a DVC 2ohm sub and a single channel1 ohm stable amp. How do I wire the sub to drop to 1 ohm so I can double the power of the amp. Before you ask, yes after I double the power on the amp I will still have 400W left before I hit the RMS of the speaker. The amp is digital. Sorry if I jacked the thread.

you wire both + together then into the amp + then wire the - together then run them in the - on the amp that will give you a 1ohm load.

So what the lowest you guys run your amps i run mine a .5ohms

Is each voice coil 2ohm or is it 2 4ohm voice coils? I am willing to bet the latter . I have a Boston G5-10 dual voice coil and it is dual 4ohm wired up as 2 ohm.

maybe someone with more photoshop exp could get it done wayyy faster

    Can someone go here:
    http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbt...rs_wiring.html

    all we need are:
one and two sub setups with 2ohm and 4ohm subs for both Monoblock and Two channel setups.. anything thats beyond that people can search online or just ask and we can get into detail, but id like to put up at least those..
PLEASE SOMEONE PLEASE!! ill paypal you 34 cents!

    35 cents?
