wow, I saw that you had posted in this thread and really worried that something had happened. Too many posts in this section now, so maybe we should all keep it to the actual obituary eulogys now so that we don't have to sit anxiously waiting for the thread to show the newest post, wondering if in fact the last person to bring this thread up actually did wreck their car...

Well the important thing about this thread is that you have to be alive to post in it... so perhaps even if your elantra gets totalled, its always good to look back and know that you're alive.

It was 11:30am. I was driving home to surprise my fiancé and take her out to dinner. As I was turning off of 58-alt to get to rt. 81, this stupid (explitive deleted) stopped her truck for no reason and I had no where to go but into her. I was 3 car lenghts back, looking at a road sign for direction, and I just slid into her. I think my car is totalled. The radiator is pretty much bent in half on top of my engine. CAI is not a crimped piece of meta, I have no grille, headlights, or any lighting other than the side markers for that matter. Not to mention I can't even see over the hood from the driver's seat. And good luck trying to open the driver's side door (I had to climb out through the window) and the tranny... don't even think about it. I had to kick the shifter into park so I could get my keys back, and then, I couldn't shift out of park so the guy could tow it. I showed pics to a friend of mine that works the parts department at a local hyundai here at home and he damn near fainted, so I know it may be bad. On monday, I have to find a way to pull out everything that I can, including the lowering springs and keep it all in my room until I get another Elantra (I refuse to go anything other than Elantra, or Tiburon... but mainly I want another Elantra. 5-Door this time).

I will get pics up when I get back to school, but it looks bad.

I'm sorry for wasting your time with this meaningless piece of webspace, but I seriously think that a piece of me has died as of 11:30am yesterday morning.

okay, take the pics of your car, and reattach the bumper (as if nothing had happened to it) and push the hood further up and you have my car (only champagne and with stock steelies), that is what mine looked like. like i said in the first post, i had to climb out of the driver side window to get out, but there is no visible damage to that side of the car as far as where the door is.

what gets me is that the airbags didnt go off, my bumper was against her rear tires.

sorry to hear that vamp. your air bags didn't go off??

wow. i ran over a big *** construction brick or material or w/e on the freeway doing about 70 mph because the dumbass truck driver didn't tie it down right and it fell off his truck which was slightly ahead of me on my right side. the moment i ran over it, air bags popped up. the rad support was bent oh so slightly and my exhaust pipe was dented but EVERYTHING else was fine. insurance quoted about 1500, 800 of which was the air bag (couldn't find any on ebay or junkyard). i remember thinking how freaking sensitive these air bags are.

well. hopefully your car isn't totalled. best of wishes to you.

most cars and especially those that have been lowered will have airbag problems....most often when going up agains trucks and SUV's....
I ate galant bumper in my accident... the grille and top of the bumper taking most of the brunt of it....the airbag sensors are mounted lower on the bumper support areas I believe...
