Thread: CABIN Air filter

  1. #1

    Default CABIN Air filter

I d/l'd the DIY guide for the cabin air filter. My 04 Elantra does not have one currently in there. I would like to put one. Is there any filters that will fit other than the Hyundai P/N 97133-2D000? Thanks--Hon-Day04

Either of these at a reasonable price. May be Hyundai anyway LOL because marked "made in Korea"

    Nothing special to put here.

I got a Bosch at a local auto parts store, but it was about the same price as the Hyundai one. There really isn't a cheap alternative.

Does the engine air filter really work? Would you rather breathe filtered air, or unfiltered air? And it will also keep leaves and stuff out of the cage fan.

You can even make one of your own by going to Home Depot and buying the air filtration material panels for home air conditioners and cutting it to size for the slot. Do a search, I believe there is a DIY on the site here somewhere with dimensions.

I saw this thread and checked to see if my 2003 Elantra GLS had one installed. It did not. The Purolator C45384 fits perfectly. I picked one up at Advanced Auto Parts in Acworth, GA for $17.47. Here is a link to it http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...tnumber=C45384.

Here's to give you a general idea of how well the filter actually works

    this was my filter

    this was Vsolo's

It filters out more crap than the actual air filter in the engine bay. So imagine all the things you're breathing while you're in your car. And being that you're in Texas, it would help out greatly. It's not the cheapest filter to replace, but after you see how well it works it's actually well worth the money.

Thanks for the comparo pics there... yeah, I don't even recall my first (engine bay) air filter even coming close to being as dirty as that cabin filter... dang...

It made a huge difference in my car. The vents actually stay clean now. I always run the factory filters even though they cost a little more.

Thanks guys. I knew someone would find a cheaper alternative with Puralator. Now I'll vent on Autzone.
They blow! They suck! They are the absolute worst auto parts store EVER! I ordered a Bosch cabin air filter and they said it would be in on a Friday. It was a wednesday when I ordered it. No big deal. Friday comes and no air filter. They say it will be in on Sat. Saturday comes and STILL NO AIR FILTER! I'm getting upset! A manager starts to look up my order...and oh...sir I don't know how but your order was cancelled! I'm furious at this point. He says he'll reorder it and it will be in Monday. MOnday comes and still no air filter. My order was maraciously Cancelled again! Autozone $%&^%^ SUCKS!!!
    ...I'm better now ..thanks---hon-day04

That's exactly why I work for an independently owned auto parts store. I can't stand those guys and A.Z.

Anyone know of any places in Canada that sell them?

And why wouldn't someone's car have one? Don't them come stock with the vehicle?

Cabin Air Filter is not a 'default' stock for Elantra.
In Korea, Avante XD(Elantra) has cabin air filter as an option (I think it comes with some expensive option -- I remember it is ABS package but I'm not sure -- , which is often blamed...), but it seems that we don't have it even as an option in North America. And I guess this is why we have the cabin air filter casing without the filter.

You can order it at amazon.com if you cannot find a local store.

Amazon.com doesn't ship to Canada, that's why they have Amazon.ca. What's it cost at the dealership?

I don't know how much is it at the dealership. But, if it's over $50.00, you can order it at amazon.com (the links above). This one is shipped to Canada.

    Nice, thanks!

EDIT: I just called my local dealership and they said $55 CND. If it's $30 USD on Amazon and then shipping, it's better to get it from the dealership I believe.
