How big of wire is the stock wire?

Well I was thinking of running bigger wire to the alternator since I have some left.I cant find any kind of writing on the stock wire.It looks like it's may 12 or 10 gauge but not sure.Any input would be nice.Remember that this is a j2 so not sure if the wireing is the same as the xd.

jalmir have you seen any difference yet on your tranny cooler?seem like eveything is shifting better.

yes, the shifting seems a lot better, the cooler becomes hot quite fast, so it's doing it's job!

Well, I kinda yeah, I added a 0gauge wire on and kept the original ground ...

I just changed the wire today, I first used 0gauge house wire, the thing is that those house wires are not flexible (at all), so it's a PITA to move the battery (even just a little) without unplugging the ground. Now I have a red flexible wire, need to take pictures of that also! lolll

2000 : I'll do a DIY thread about the cooler, but the total cost is under 25 CAN$ and took me around 30 minutes to install (and that's because I didn't know where to fix the cooler!!!)

i replace the alternator to battery wire on sunday to 4 gauge rockford fosgate wire, no hassle with that. everything was fine. i did not get rid of the stock one, i just added a new one and ran it by radiator using wire isolator loops around it. i now have to upgrade the grounds but i don't want to use the orignal ground bolt located by the shifter, i was wondering if i could use any other engine block bolt (or transmission) has anyone done that yet? i personally want to run the ground from the battery to the chassis and the engine block (from the engine block i will run another one to the chassis).

^ you think that stock wire is stiff? try wiring your whole car with that thick stranded wire.. it can be done, and it will work.. but MAN is it a pita! but if you really really really really cant afford good wire, itl work

I'm replacing the stock grounds with 6-gauge copper strand this weekend. Hopefully will help the engine not surging at idle whenever an accessory is turned on.

Stock battery wire on a J2 looks to be 4-gauge, thankfully. No worries there. The stock grounds and terminals, OTOH, are pitiful. Like 10-gauge wire for the grounds, and highway scrap for the terminals.

Replacing the stock grounds and especially terminals really does wonders for the electrical system. 2000 and jalmir, if you guys haven't upgraded the terminals, it's highly recommended.
