    Default Video Screen Capture?

I need to make a short demo showing me operating a program on my computer. I then want to save it as a video so others can open it and see how do to this process.

I know once upon a time Windows Movie Maker used to have video screen capture capabilities, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this in the current version. Does anyone know how? Is there a better program to use than WMM?

    Thanks.

Program looks good and simple, unfortunately it's not capturing any of the 3D rotation within the program. any other ideas?

    ArcGIS Explorer 9.2

    EDIT:

Think "Google Earth" for big kids.

ArcGIS can export to avi/mov although it will be uncompressed so it will be a large file size. Then if you wanted to you could even run it through Windows Movie Maker to compress it. There are also plenty of other programs that will compress it for you too.

Yeah, you can export animations/videos from ArcMap, but unfortunately ArcMap does not have the 'tilt' feature that the new ArcExplorer does. What I'm basically trying to do here, is highlight a parcel, pan down to about a 35-degree angle, and do a virtual fly-by of the parcel so it can be seen from 360 degrees.

Right now I captured using Camstudio2-0 to save as an .AVI file. Then used Movie Maker to post-process it, clip the ends, title it, and put it in a .WMV file that was much smaller than the .AVI.

It works ok right now, but if I could turn off the mouse cursor (like you can in Fraps) it would be solid.

Are you actually familiar with ArcGIS? If so, you're the first one I've met here that is.

Used it for a long time up till 8.3 I think. Havent used it since so I'm a little out of the loop.

After 8.3, they jumped to 9, which was a faster less-buggy version of 8.3 and introduced geodatabases. 9.1 further-expanded on 9, but was still buggy. 9.2 is the current version now, and is pretty-good. Runs the best out of any of them so far, but is getting more and more complicated to use. The new ArcExplorer program (not bundled, separate download) is like Google Earth, except you can add in your own shapefile and geodatabase info, in addition to the streaming data coming from ESRI.

Here is a quick demo of what I did for a test run. Someone else, in planning, is creating a shapefile set of the parcels that will be highlighted during the flyby view here. Then I'll put it into Explorer and do this kind of thing in a 'cleaner' manner. It will later be published to the web.

This is hosted on photobucket, so that may account for some of the choppiness.

I see what you mean about wanting to remove the mouse. THat's annoying to see the little hand there.

Doh. That was easy: Options -> Cursor Options -> Hide Cursor.
