Installing headers...

Me and a couple friends are going to try and install the headers I bought off nick, but after my friend cracked a socket trying to get a bolt off we came to realise that we need some more tools and parts.

Does anyone know the part number of the gasket between the stock headers and the block, the gasket between the pipes, and what bolts are needed?

why do you need new bolts? as for the gasket between the pipes hit up autozone or your local store like that and ask them for the gaskets that where i got mine for like 2 or 3 dollars

Dude, it's not hard. Go to the hyundai parts guy, and give him your VIN. He will look up for an exhaust manifold gasket for you, and you buy it. Ta da!

You won't need new studs nor bolts for the headers unless your friend stripped something.

BY THE WAY, if you are cracking sockets, then you have a big problem. Screw the parts you need for now, and go get yourself something semi-decent like a craftsman socket set. Sheesh. lol

Well to make it easy, and so that I have SOME chance of passing inspection with the headers, im going to leave the 2nd cat and resonator. But we're planning on dropping both the cat/resonator and the headers, putting the 4-2-1 on the stock cat/reso, then bolting it back up.

But we're having trouble getting the damn bolts undone under there, and figured rather then put the rusty ones back in just get new ones.

Kewl - haha, it was craftsman. Trust me, the kid helping me do this is friggin insane. He rips full tree's out of the ground for fun, haha. We got all the tools we need now, but the bolts and crap are just SO freaking rust from PA winters.

Dude I don't think that what you are planning to do will even fit.

Ah, so you are referring to the NUTS on the bottom...

I just used an impact the first time around, then put some good nuts in.

Remember, bolts, nuts, studs, they are all different things

Well the bolts are the ones that connect from the reso back. The ones on the block, we got those off perfectly fine and can re-use them.

Oh, and do you know what the proper tourqe for the nuts all are?

I never use a torque wrench, and I have removed exhaust manifolds at least 16 times in the past year.

BUT I know I checked HMA and it's a very low setting, because my torque wrench only goes from 30 ft lbs to 300, and it was under 30 ft lbs. Something like 19? Kind of like the sparkplug sockets, since it's an aluminium head and you don't want to strip out the threads, it's a bizznatch to rethread a head. lol.

Alright, so hand tight does it. Works for us then, well its off to autozone to get the parts and hopefully I got some pics for later.

Took us 3 hours, but thier in. We just need another gasket and to free up the muffler somehow, and im in buisness.
