    Default Performance Header interest

In light of reliability issues with certain companies and quality issues with others along with recent fitment+quality issue with a header I got, my friend is going to make one for my car. It will be a 4-2-1 SS header. Making a few design adjustments to correct the fitment and alignment issues with one i got. (was also extremely poor welding with the one i received ie hole in the joint of #2 n #3 pipes)

R&D will be done on Hunter (my Elantra wink.gif) Taken to dyno for before and after to get honest figures. No matter what he is making one for mine, just questioning who else would want one once it clears his and mine standards. Were both Eagle scouts if that gives u any inkling wink.gif

So feedback. This is no pre-buy or anything. Simply who's interested and how much they are willing to spend for a quality product that will be sent promptly.

Couple things i wished to ask: Header is the same for the Beta II power Tiburons?
Same for 2001-2006 Elantra, any others? Ie what about Beta I vehicles?

PS: he is same one making my cat-back system with the Borla muffler i got.

I would be interested in one. I would like to see pics before I quote a price though.

I'd be willing to pay about $300-350 after it's been properly tested and works like a quality product

I would think that $400 would be about the minimum you could charge for a quality SS header.

how are you going to arrive at your design?

he is saying you can only get crap for under 400$, and is asking what kind of design you will be going for, since ALL of them are already available, and for less.

As for the OBX headers, buy it for 130$, re-do the welds, and it will cost you way less.

Obviously not since thats the crap i seem to have gotten! So much needs to be done that we felt it would just be easier to make a new and better quaility header.

And this thread is here because we are making it not trying to find a supplier. The OBX stuff is crap and isn't always available. Hotshot no longer makes any, and all other sites charge 350 or more and each have their own issues.

My attempt here is to look at providing a setup more readily and correctly done.
No matter what i will have a custom header for my car, simply asking if others might want to take part afterwards.

I think 350-400 is a good range. hope everything works out great becasue i'm really interested and already bored with my setup.

While I agree that 350-400 is a good price, I have some concerns.

I personally don't want a 4-2-1 designed header. I'm building my car for racing, and I need the upper power band power.

If you were going to make a 4-1 design, long-tube, stepped header, then I would be in for that.

Depends on how well things go with this one. Dyno charts will be shown. See for me i want more power down low.

I agree, most do want the power down low, and I completely understand. I've designed a header for my car, using 3 varied stepped runners from each of the ports to a Burns collector. From my calculations, I can gain 5 hp and 3 tq. down low, with the maximum up top of about 17 hp and 14 tq. But, that's just premature calculations. Someday, when I find the right shop, I'll have my header made to what I want.

I am with you there. I would like to have the power on the top end. With the 5-speed, I have enough gear ratio to get the car rolling.

well, if you're going to develop a really kickin' header, you cant just take a shot in the dark at primary length/diameter/etc.

    I guess you could:
    1) ask a pro
    2) use engine calc software
    3) cut and try

Think we lost a couple of votes and posts here.

Friend will be using Autocad program and we will be cutting and tryin as well. But i think he has a design fairly well in his head already. It will probably a long tube 4-2-1.

Since he is in cad already, see if he is willing to design a 4-1 as well. I know that there are a few people here that would like one, myself included.

I think money is an issue and he's doing this 4-2-1 for me since we are old buddies from scouts, otherwise he'd be tackling Sentras (his) or Civics(his slave ) I'm buying the pipe bender for him as payment for header and probably exhaust as well since i already provided muffler. So it really depends on how well the header sells. 4-1 is not as popular and as such i'm not sure how he may react due to monetary constraints. As it is he's willing to eat parts and labor costs for making the 4-2-1.

Alright, here's the current lowdown. The header will be a 4-2-1 equal length longtube header made of tempered steel with choise of either ceramic or stainless steel and option of adding/welding in a cat (additional cost for the cat option)
The 4-2 section will come most of the way down the engine front, the 2-1 section will curve under and join about 6in after the curve/under the engine. The cat option will be in similar location of our stock second cat, thus second O2 sensor wires will need to be extended for header set with cat.

I know they got a bum name around here..... just plan for it to take a really long time and you'll be fine. once it shows up its a gloreous thing of beauty. welds are all tig and beautifully done. it's held up to canadian winter's without rusting better than the hotshot's ceramic coating..... only problem is you need a metric flange to mate up with it.... kinda a pain in the *** so plan to modefy an existing one or buy one from SR when ya get the header.
If you've ever asked for a 4" to 1 7/8" exhaust reducer...... you might be a ricer.
