Thread: 2008 Package Changes - No go for me

Default 2008 Package Changes - No go for me

Well, I just saw on the Hyundai website that the SE packages are only available with the automatic. This is a deal killer for me. Since I was unable to find a 2007 in the desired color/equipment combination, there will be no Elantra in my future.

Since there seems to be so many interesting cars coming out for 2009, maybe this isn't such a bad thing after all. It's not like my current car is that bad anyway.

Is that right? This info is seems to show that the 5 speed is available for both the GLS and SE trim levels.

So does the HyundaiUSA trim level breakdown.

Where did you look for the info?

I actually saw a couple of 5 speed 08's on the lot. I didn't pay any attention to what the trim was though.

    Edit:

I just built a car on Hyundai's website, and here is what I found.

I have noticed that there are more cars with the automatic transmissions lately. I wonder if the 5 speed stick configuration is produced less often these days.

Sorry guys. What I meant was that you cannot select a package (Sun Roof) with the manual. I would like the "limited" package on the SE, which is no go.

I see what you are saying now. I don't know. I'd check first hand at some dealers and see what you can find.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow afternoon after work to get the speedo reflash done. I'll check then.

I asked the dealer where I got the TCM speedo reflash done and a salesman did say you can order the manual equipped car with leather, sunroof and heated seats by specing it out with a manual from the factory and the sunroof, heated seats and leather can be installed at the local dealership.

I still wouldn't want a non factory sunroof no matter what anyone says. Plus, that's a lot of hassle.

    Hmm.

Me either, but the other stuff could be factory. Probably more expensive too.

I guess that HMC wanted to make the car (at least for 2008) on the soft side where lux items include the automatic. I counted the HD's on the lot and only 1 was a 5 speed. The rest were automatics.

I did look at the upper control arm and it was shaped similarly, but the ends were put together better than mine.

More Autos are made because most don't know how to drive stick. So why put out a manual car when its less likely to be sold.

As for options, i like the SE idea with a manual (and dont need no stinkin sunroof) , but Hyundai killed it for me with the Carolla design and same engine for a bigger car. Would rather get a Sonata 2.4 manual SE.

You can't get the 3.3L with a manual transmission. It only has a 5-speed auto. The 2.4L is available with a 5-speed manual, or a 4-speed auto.

Doesn't matter to me, but some people prefer the stick shift.

The only thing I hate about my XD is the auto trans. It is hard as hell to find cars in california that are manual trans now. 90% of the new ones are being shipped here with auto. Better for the environment, auto helps the emmissions they say! I say gimmie a stick and let me breath some smog!

How about people with manuals drive more conservatively in traffic jams 'cause they're using both legs, and don't want to get tired? More conservative traffic jam driving equals slightly faster traffic speed which means better mileage for everybody (0 mpg sitting still) which means less smog.

About the HD's option packages, wtf is up with an stick only seemingly available on the base model?

A friend of mine is shopping and realized that a Sonata 2.4L manual is about $15,500 after the $2500 rebate! I'd take one! Plus there should be the Elantra Touring which is supposed to be "sporty and fun to drive," which I certainly hope means MANUAL

Sadly the stick is seen as a po'boys automatic instead of a performance device (except in the case of true sports cars [and even these are being replaced w/ "formula 1" paddle shifters]). It would be nice if Hyundai at least let you order a manual from the factory for either engine. We're not saying they should build a lot of "unsellable" cars, but simply give the consumer a choice.

As for the "elantra touring" its most likely going to be the i30 wagon (in the USA) with the same beta engine and requisite obesity weight gain (of a couple hundred pounds) making it even less "sporty" than the HD.

Thats just misinformation. Auto trannys actually wind up using more power thus use up more gas. They have to make the gearing different just so its comparable to the manual.

That depends on the unit. They have improved over time, but they are not as power hungry as the older ones, which took up tp 45% of the engine's power.

If there was a legal way to have hand controls with a stick, I would have it, but there is not any possibility that hats going to happen. I know it is possible, but getting that past the DOT is another thing.
