When do I need to replace the struts?

How do I know if the struts need replacing? They aren't making any noise or anything, but I have about 71,000 miles and still running the original factory struts. There is nothing in the maintenance log about them. Which struts are better to get than stock but not too expensive?

It's best to replace them when they start making noise, leaking, or if you lower the car. I'm using KYB's. They're cheap and good.

when the ride gets bouncy and stuff it's time to get new ones.

if u lower ur car thats a good time to check them. when u have them off the car and u pull the center rod up and it istantly starts to go down and goes all the way down then they need replacing but if it stays up then they're good. another good strut is Monroe Sensatrac Struts have them on my elantra and like them.

yeah when it gets bouncy.....or you cd's start skipping! my wifes accent has needed struts for the last year or so....but its going bye bye soon anyway....but man does the cd skip!!
