Ok so i've been putting sound deadner in the XD and just wanted to post some pics of the progress, im currently using several products.
Second Skin Damplifier <38sq ft so far>
Foil Tape
Butyl Backed Foil Tape
Second Skin Spectrum Liquid Deadener <30sq ft so far>
1/8" thick Frost King Duct Insulation
1/4" thick foam weatherstripping
(3.5 yr old) eDead v1 <3sq ft>
I still have a whole lot to do and am waiting for a new shipment of damplifier to come in so i can do the headliner and the back doors and other misc. areas.
Polyfill smokeshow. That's kinda ghetto bro. But props to you for having the balls to do it! Don't you think that if it got wet though, the poly fill would be a good source of corrosion?
Thanks Does it deaden the sound then. I think my source of rattle is the whole lid it self. Plus my rear Right of my bumper is very rattly. I dont know why. The other side doesn't do it. BTW nice PIc.
alot of people make displays like that for shows but they use cotton balls and it looks like ****, mine was nice, but it won't get wet and if it does you could just pull it out but it won't mold or anything because it won't hold water. and like i said it will lighten the rattle a little but won't eliminate it, you'd be able to hear a difference though
Yay! New shipment came in so I can continue to work! and 2003gt i don't get what you mean by putting over the holes, the polyfill was just instered into the hook thing in the trunk latch hole, maybe i'll post a pic to show what im saying, and the seams are being covered w/ butyl tape so there won't be any seams but the mass has already been added to the outerskin so little seams aren't gonna matter i don't think im just covering them for uniformity really
this foam is supposed to be a filter for high band frequency noise which will be good for myself and someone like Noisewater that is also running infinity components, its not really for sound absortion. its thin (1/8") but it'll keep the extra stuff inside the car.
did some more work, but still not close to done cause i was working on my suspension and brakes and am not done w/ that either. I have 3 more doors to complete and i want to make a mdf adapters for the speaker when i get a jigsaw.
(repainted intake pipe and strutbar removed prior to pic)
neoprene foam, over deadener
enclosed door
foam over deadner, over sheetmetal covering holes, and butyl tape
There is a HUGE difference in sound quality now and its not loud from the outside, i assume it'll be even quieter once i finish the other doors and the headliner. I put some duct isulation on the floor and near the tranny tunnel area but I haven't driven the car yet to hear a difference.
got my suspension installed and aligned so I can continue w/ my sound deadening finally, 1 door left then finish the rear deck and hit the headliner, i used the neoprene inside the back doors also, im gonna find some open cell foam to put in there too since there are no speakers in the door I don't want any sound to come out from the back door.
More pics, i used the butyl tape to cover almost all the seams too 95% of them, my hands are all cut up. I used a layer of damplifier, then a layer of old edead, then the duct insulation, and my neoprene over that but I didn't get a pic of it.
wow, thats alot of work man. id never feel like doing so much... i dont even feel like finish my trunk floor... which is the easiest of it all... :/ lol
its worth it to prevent noise tickets and to keep people from knowing I have a system....until I open the door. and its almost luxury car quality inside the cabin now, once I get the headliner I think it'll be set cause when I clap my hands in the car its like a muffled/dead sound. Im gonna put some stuff inside the fender too when I get more money for material
im still not done but i've cut a lot of the noise down, and now imo I have that "man in the trunk" sound i was looking for, im gonna need to order more material and continue but i got other stuff to do . One thing that sucks though is that i guess because all the sound is within the car my roof flexes w/ the bass turned up so there is no way in hell im gonna have the sunroof open when im booming
