If you put them HIDs in the stock reflectors of the Elantras, it IS illegal unless you put in some sort of glare shield. The light reflects off of the bottom, cauing the light to go directly into oncoming drivers' eyes.
It is illegal to put them in a normal halogen reflector housing no matter what, glare shield or not. Projectors are the only legal way to use HIDs.

Well, that depends on your local laws as well. Some places won't consider them illegal if you do the modifications necessary to reduce glare.

In most of the U.S. any and all modification to the factory headlights is "illegal," whether you get projectors or not.

remember corey... my car is much lower than most people on this website, which does have an affect on the light output (height/distance)

when i put these hids in... i didnt adjust my reflectors for the height of my car... so from the start they were much lower to the ground than they should be reducing the distance on the light.

all of these factors have an affect on the way other drivers see my car from their point of view... and ive NEVER gotten flashed at or anything.

Corey, hid kits in reflector housings in the US are illegal period. I don't have shields and I rarely get flashed, haven't had an issue in the 4 states that I've driven in at night either. Granted, the sheilds will help, but for w/e reason, we don't glare as bad as others.

Derek: ooooh during the week? lucky you. I'd kill someone in front of their own mother for a day off during the week.

That's how I roll son, lol! Haven't been flashed in the last 3 nights at all, and went through a sobriety checkpoint with no questions, so I should be good.

Got them today and installed them tonight. When I start the car every once in a while the drivers side flickers once before turning on. Will keep an eye on it. They look great

That's completely normal, it is the ignition cycle. They have to be ignited. which is that flicker when turned on.

    Thanks!

I have gotten Flashed with the shields But its funny because I just put my High beams on and then they really cant see. LOL I thought someone on here told me that you cant do Fog Hid's and Low Beam HID's because it would melt the wiring. I would be interested in some H3 3K JDM Yellow Fog HID's.

    It won't melt the wiring.

To be 100% safe though, you can add a relay harness, which powers them directly from the battery.

    I do have H3 3000K in stock!

    Thanks!

I'm sorry, come on when what is off? Not sure what you mean?

Bob, you'll have to have the headlights on in order for your fog lights to be on. However, there's a DIY on here or EClub that'll show you how to change it. And I do suggest that anyone who puts HID fogs in, in combination with HID headlights, that you DO get the relay harness. Makes it safer and for peace of mind.
