haha, I'm from Ontario, going to University in Nova Scotia. Looking for my first car.

The Elantra seems like the best bang for buck, and not many people have them modified up here.

I'm coming for that car of the month title! Give me 1 year from September!

Most elantras are very affordable, easy to work on and last a long time if you keep up on your maintenance. I would recoment 04-06 models. The earlier (01-03) models had some recalls and to my knowledge did not have side impact airbags. plus i think they look better with the facelift headlights, bumpers ect. But 01-03 or 04-06 are generally the same and are all good cars

Hey I like my car!!! In all honest I like the headlights. Is it weird that of all the things I like the head lights the most. The tib has a nice interior but the headlight on my xd2 lookes menacing somewhat like the challenger. Welcome to the site and hope it helps you as much as it has help us all.

Wrong, all XD's in the US had side airbags. The 01-03's seemed to have less electrical problems.

I thought they added the airbags after the questionable side impact ratings
actually, what I may be thinking of is the automated airbag. The xd didn't have the auto shut off for the passenger side. Correct? I have owned both but don't remember

I have a 20 hour drive from Ontario to Nova Scotia in a month. Has anyone done anything similar in a 01-06 Elantra?

From Wikipedia: "In 2003, the Elantra received a facelift for all models (codename XD2). " So that means XD2 starts in 04' and not 03'?

All manufacturers start their next model year halfway into the current year. So you see 2011's hittning the showrooms now.... but it's 2010. Get it?

Ok, so the updated 04' Elantra's (GLS) with 100'000km-150'000km are listed at around $4500 CDN by local private sellers on autotrader.ca/eBay etc...

The 2001-2003 Elantra (GLS) with $100'000km-$150000km are listed at $2800 CDN to $3000....

In that case which would you lean towards?

Generally, how much can a knock of off on the price negotiating for a used local car?

I'd look for an 03 with as low a mileage as I could get. remember, at 100k km's you are due for a timing belt.
