Default 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe & 5-door Information and Pictures

    http://www.hyundai-blog.com/index.ph...ate-announced/

Hyundai Motor America announces 2012 Elantra Coupe to hit the U.S. dealerships in spring this year!

Hyundai is planning a surprising reveal for the spring 2011! As announced at a dealer meeting in San Francisco recently, Hyundai will bring a two-door Elantra Coupe to the market. The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe release date has been set for spring this year, meaning we are only a few months away from it.

Hyundai has not released any official details about the up-coming 2012 Elantra Coupe, so we will have to wait until the model gets its official unveiling. It is very likely that the all-new Hyundai Elantra Coupe will make its official U.S. premiere at the New York auto show, which starts on April 22nd.

Hyundai Elantra Coupe sales should commence shortly after its official debut, so those interested in a car, should hurry up and visit their local Hyundai dealer to pre-order the two-door coupe. Why? As you know, the all-new Elantra sedan has been in huge demand ever since it hit the market and Hyundai has had plenty of troubles meeting a demand for it. We are expecting the same to happen with the Elantra Coupe.

Under the hood, there will be the same 1.8L Nu engine as in the four-door Elantra sedan, however, the four-cylinder engine will also get a more potent variant. Hyundai engineers will apply a gasoline direct injection -GDI technology and turbocharger to the existing powerplant, which means more power than now. Expect the 1.8L engine to churn out around 210 horsepower.

The 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe will also get a dual-clutch transmission (DCT), which debuted recently in the 2012 Hyundai Veloster 3 door coupe. Stay tuned for more news about the up-coming Hyundai Elantra Coupe!

Well, there is everything many dreamed of: a 2-door, turbocharged Elantra with DCT.

I will say it again before the MT dinosaur fanboys show up: Ya for dual-clutch transmission!

I think this may be potentially a bad idea because it would compete with the Veloster. Waiting for pics to make a final opinion.

    My take on a photochop:

I agree that a turbocharged Elantra coupe could eat into the market segment of the veloster, both FWD turbo small cars. However, I think the goofiness of the Veloster makes it a very niche vehicle, that some will just not drive. The ECoupe could pickup some of that market share.

I'm going to be the skeptic on this one.

    1. What Nova said about not making sense when the Veloster is coming out this summer.
    2. How often is it so close to "potential" debut and there hasn't even been a whisper of spy shots.
    3. Why would they have a direct injection engine in this if they didn't have one in the sedan, just months after release of the sedan.

Too much of this doesn't make sense. Does anyone know how reliable Hyundai-Blog is with their stuff?

Hyundai-blog is usually correct, I would rate them 95% accurate with most things.

Leftlane is also carrying the story:
    http://www.leftlanenews.com/hyundai-...a-by-2012.html

As for the engine choices - you could see the improved engine in both cars when it becomes available. The articles make it sound like the turbo version won't be available at launch.

Autoweek adds to the article that there is also a new trim level coming to Genesis:

I'm also a bit skeptic, but know knows. Very odd for a car company to make a surprise announcement, then have it be at dealers within weeks. Has that ever happened?

IF they release an Elantra coupe, my bet is it will the the exact same car with less doors. They'll want to keep the whole Elantra line at 40 MPG on all trims, becuase that's what they're banking their whole advertising message on.

My only guess at Hyundai's reasoning is that they have always had two 2-door FWD cars: the Accent hatchback and the Tiburon. The Tib was the "sporty" 2-door and the Accent hatch was the more utility. So since the new Accent comes only as a 4-door sedan or 5-door hatch, the Veloster will be the "sporty" 2-door and the Elantra 2-door will take the role of utility.

Apparently the news was first reported by Automotive News, at least according to Autoblog.

And we won't have to wait very long to get our hands on the Elantra two-door, either, as sales will reportedly commence by spring.
    This brings about some questions:

How come we haven't seen any Korean spy pics?
Is this really coming out in the US first? Or maybe only in the NA market (not Korea specifically)?
Is this going to be built in Montgomery? Is there room alongside the Sonata and Elantra sedan?
Will HMA be smart enough to make sure the sedan gets the same GDI (turbo or non-turbo) engine?

guys let me say this as a person that sells these cars. there is no buzz at my dealerships about a 2 door elantra. Also no one even askes about it. So if there is one coming out this year no one knows about it yet.....

First spy shots of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe hit the web. A must see!

A South Korean reader sent us these spy shots of what clearly looks like the production model of the all-new 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe. Earlier this year we have learned that the South Korean carmaker has been readying a two-door Elantra Coupe, which is rumored to go on sale this fall. And now, a few months later we got the very-first spy shots of the hotly-anticipated car.

Though still in test mule stages, it is obvious that the up-coming Hyundai Elantra Coupe will take many of its styling cues from its 4-door sibling. However, latest rumors suggest the Elantra Coupe will feature more aggressively styled front bumper and slightly updated LED headlamps and Hyundai’s signature grille.

The 2012 Elantra Coupe will slot in-between the just recently-launched 2012 Hyundai Veloster and RWD Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which is rumored to receive a mid-cycle styling makeover later this year. The Elantra 2-door will share its platform and complete powertrain technology with its four-door sibling, therefore you can expect the model to adopt the 148-horsepower 1.8L Nu four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic gearbox from the Elantra sedan.

Expect the 2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe to make its official US-market debut at the 2011 Los Angles Auto Show. [Thanx for the pics Hyundai fan!]
