Default Car Insurance (First time car buyer)

    Hey guys,

Do you have any tips for purchasing car insurance in Ontario? Or any Province in Canada? I'm looking to purchase a car from a dealership in Southern Ontario by the end of the summer.

I'm a 22 year old male (for the past few years I've driven spare family vehicles).

    Thanks,

    Andrew

GTA eh? Insurance is nasty there. I would suggest shopping online, many sites and companies offer online quotes. I know a few guys with Belair that are getting reasonable rates, myself included. I found my Elantra to be quite the expensive vehicle to insure. It's only like $100/year less than an SRT-4 would be, and about the same if I was to import an Evo VIII. For me anyways..

Thanks. Belair looks promising (as far as insurance goes). Is the lowest quote website www.kanetix.ca reliable?

Look at State Farm. I've been with them through a claim and they were actually decent. Don't just knee-jerk to the lowest number, weigh the pros and cons of having a person to go to vs the web/a phone number. I mean if the difference is significant then by all means, but if it's ~$100/year there's a reason that brick and mortar insurance companies still exist. Co-Operators gave me the runaround when I was with them for my first claim, left a bad taste in my mouth.

Get as much coverage as you can afford. All it takes is one icy morning to derail your dreams of paying next to no insurance bills. Kanetix is good to show you options and a price range, but you really need to go straight to the source for the fine details. Spend a few minutes ad contact a few agents. Worth the time!
