    Default Getting a new Elantra!

Hey everyone! I am about a week away from getting my "first" car. At least my first car that comes with a payment. I'm getting a 2011 Elantra GLS. Now I've got the same questions I'm sure that have been asked many a time before. I'm looking for some performance mods. I found a CAI from K&N. Any recommendations on exhaust? I'd planned on getting the tiux body kit and spoiler. Planned on some new rims. Is there anything else that I should be looking into? I was thinking audio because I've read that Elantra's aren't a great "tuner" but I like the look, and may trade one of these puppies for the coupe next year or maybe sooner? So I'm ready for your comments, thanks!

They aren't a great tuner? It's one of the hottest cars in korea to modify hahaha.

Hope you get it and enjoy your car.
They ran over my car, quite literally.

Thanks for the move! Hopefully I'll get more replies! Thanks for the welcomes too! Well, I've seen some sweet Elantra's on the internet, but they are all in Korea! I haven't really been able to find many parts for HP gains. CAI and an exhaust are all I've found for performance, at least for the engine. I've found a lot of sway and strut bars, as well as a crossmember for the rear. Lowering springs were also something I found. I've looked around here and I've seen that 18" rims are the biggest possible rims to put on an Elantra, but I'm not sure if that's something I wanna do. 17" is probably going to do it for me. I've basically decided that shark racing is the easist site to locate after market parts. If anyone has any other suggestions as to where I can find parts please let me know! Oh, has anyone else noticed on the steering that the 2011 pulls to the left? I saw a youtube video about it, is there something that causes that? I know that alignment and tension rod maybe? But is there something else that causes that year to have that steering issue? I need to know before I take it off the lot next week! Thanks guys, hope to hear some suggestions!

Don't you think you are jumping the gun a bit if you are going to possibly trade it for a coupe next year?

Well, nothing is certain yet! I might not put anything into it. But if I do, I'd just like to keep my options open. The only reason I would trade the 2011 is if Hyundai makes an elantra with a bigger engine with more hp.

Well, it's official! I now own a 2011 Hyundai Elantra! I think I'm going to go ahead and keep the sedan after much debating. So where should I start with upgrades? My Elantra doesn't have headlights or a sunroof, and the only way I would want to get those is if I can have them installed into the car like they would be at the factory. Does anyone know if dealerships can install factory intended items the way they were meant to be, and replace my light controls on my steering column with updated ones?

Aftermarket sunroofs are available, but it's only a matter of time before it WILL leak.

I would caution against an aftermarket sunroof as well.

As far as the headlights, like incubus asked, did you mean some other type of lights?

Haha, ooops! Sorry guys, I meant no fog lights! I have asked a couple of people about aftermarket sunroofs, and all I've heard is that they DO end up leaking. so I can live without a leaky sunroof. Now I found a pair of headlights, but they only come with halogen bulbs. I would absolutely LOVE HID's! Now, the person I talked to about purchasing them said they could ship HID bulbs with the new housing. Is it possible to just swap a halogen bulb for an HID bulb? I watched a xenon video where they installed HID bulbs in a stock housing, so I'm thinking it's possible, I'll just have to alter this new pair of headlights. However, I may just be spouting hot air and not know anything about electrical wiring and housing. I was considering just taking it to a customizing shop and having them do this alteration, that is if it is possible.

Oh, now I've also been considering some exterior things I've wanted to do. I need to know how big of a rim, I can fit onto my '11 Elantra. I have seen 18", and I was considering that size. The thing I'm worried about is that I want to lower the car by putting some lowering springs, and the putting the TUIX body kit on it as well. Now are all of these things possible in combination? One last exterior thing that has crossed my mind is about the fog lights. I've seen the covers for the fog lights with the led strip around them, now that will just fit over my lightless fog light housing now won't it? I mean I have the plastic filler in my bumper, so I figure I can just put the fog light cover over that and jusst have some LED running lights on my bumper.

Well, that was a lot for a quick reply, but I've been thinking a lot! I'm hoping to get some answers soon, because purchases are going to start being made here by the beginning of August!
