Thumbs down DC Auto Show - Dissapointed in Hyundai

Yesterday me and some friends went to the DC Auto show, mainly because it's a good waste of $10 and 5 hours, not because we are looking into buying new cars. Overall it wasn't bad, a lot of cool cars and nice manufacturer setups. I sat in a 2005 Mustang, it's fairly nice, and more room in the back than I would have imagined. The Evo seats were nice as always, as well as the leather in the Saabs and Volvos.

But, the Hyundai showing was sad, just plain sad. The only Tiburon they were showing was a base model Beta one. What the hell is that? Do they expect to sell Tiburons when they are only showing the base model? They didn't have a Tiburon GT, let alone any of the Tiburon Special Editions. I couldn't believe it. Just imagine the yellow SE sitting there in the middle of the booth brightening everything up, it would have drawn a crowd.

Does Hyundai not want to sell any cars? I don't get it. Do they not want to attract younger buyers? I don't get it. It was sad.

I was also sad that they were talking about the Tuscon, but weren't even commenting on how a newer, larger Santa Fe was coming out. Maybe they were told not to talk about it, I don't know, doesn't make sense to me.

Also, the women and men who were working the exhibit didn't really know that much about Hyundai or their cars. The lady asked me while I was sitting in the Elantra, "Do you have any questions" and I almost said "I know more about this car then you ever will," but decided to go with the "No, actually I already have one, thanks."

The Hyundai booth was probably the third least crowded. Isuzu and Suzuki were definately a lot less crowded, it was sad. Poor them.

And, for some strange reason, Kia had the best looking group of women working in their exhibit. My friend was confused and I said "They have to sell cars somehow."

I went to the Washington auto show also yesterday. I was also depressed by the horrible Hyundai cars. They did have nice elantras though, which is my main concern. Besides that, the Ferrari and GT-40 caught my eye. The Benz was nice and a few cars upstairs. I got tons of pics too..

and btw..jaguar had the best looking women...

maybe kia thought that people would look at their boothgirls instead of their poor safety/reliability

you do know hyundai owns kia right? i have heard more problems with hyundai w/ air bags not going off then i have any problems w/ kia all together...or hyundais airbags going off when they arent supposed to (i think it was on NT a guy was saying he was backing out of his driveway, turned to check for traffic, and his airbag went off...no one hit him, nothing)

my dad has a kia sorrento (i think...the SUV) and he hasnt had a problem w/ it at all, and he has had it since...late august of 03...my boss also had an optima, and he loved it and never had a problem with it.

Yeah I know hyundai owns kia. Im referring more towards their new spectra5 which happened to get a ****ty safety rating. I didnt say nething bout hyundai's safety/reliability so lets not bring up that issue (airbag was a recall neways)

As for myself, 89,000miles on my '00 tib(dad is a salesman), only brakes and timing belt have been changed, absolutely no problems. Never went in for a tune-up and just replaced spark plugs. This is the reason why we bought the elantra last june and the reason why hyundai is better than kia IMO.

    P.S.: Reliability=Toyota

Well, we'll see what they do in Chicago in February, now that the Chicago Auto Show is the largest in North America. That's right, it beats out Detroit and all the rest. 1.2 million sq feet. http://www.chicagoautoshow.com/
