Thanks man, lots of info. I love those backup camera's. I will definitely get one. That last link, though, for the DVR, is that a dash cam?

When do you plan on installing the unit into your Elantra? Have you purchased it yet?

Oh okay. I have one of those in my XD. It's a Thinkware H50. I am going to buy another Thinkware dash cam for my XD2. I have a $50 gift card to Best Buy so I'll buy it there.

Nice to hear your son wants it. How soon before he gets it?

So I started painting the Limited emblem today. I had to paint it on the car, it's much easier that way. The chrome part is going to be, or is now, metallic red just like the other emblems. Tomorrow, I will paint the black LIMITED the exact same color as the car, then clear coat it. Here are some pictures.

Looks pretty good. You have some good taping skills to get it in the emblem lol. Your lucky you have nice weather to work on your car right now. All I have is snow and I'll be lucky to have a day where it's 30 degrees

Thanks. Yeah, I have a steady hand and patience. It is Southern California, so the weather is usually pretty good. It's supposed to rain next week but that's about all we get here. This winter has been the coldest and wettest that I can remember in a long time. Sucks you can't work on your car. How much longer before the weather gets better for you? A few months?

Anyways, when I finish the emblem I'll post pictures. I am going to start the brakes this weekend by getting a spare caliper and painting it metallic red to get an idea of how it would look to make sure that's what I want.

I hope to get my car out of storage around the end of April.

Also I noticed that both of you have brake rotors in that back. Is that a hard mod to do? So there a forum on that?

Yeah, my Limited has rear disc brakes. I thought only the GT's came with rear disc until I took the wheels off when I first got it only to discover to my delight that there were discs. I was planning on giving that a shot but now I don't have to.

Wayyyyyyyy down. lol. Yeah, at 16, with all that extra power it might be a little nerve wracking at 16 to let him drive it. And if he gets pissed or says he'll be careful and why don't you trust him, tell him what my parents told me. "We trust you. We trust that you're 16."

So, as far as the big brake upgrade, I am running into a problem. I have called just about every machine shop around and no one will re-drill for four lug. Most say they don't do it, others say they WON'T do it. Even in the Mexican areas like Santa Ana. If THEY won't do it, I doubt anyone will.

So, that kinda sucks. I wanted the XG350 upgrade.

So, if I can't do that, then I can get Sonata rotors which are 4x114.3 and Sonata calipers? Is that right? That is still an upgrade from stock? And what year Sonata? 2004?

I am going to keep calling around. Hopefully I'll find someone who will.

I have a caliper from a 2004 Sonata that I sanded down to the metal and painted chrome red, the exact color of the accents on the car. Here are a few pictures:

    https://postimg.org/image/f5vd39s2z/
    https://postimg.org/image/plzf0vd0l/

I like it. I am still not sure what I am going to do as far as paint. I will either go with this metallic red as it matches, or bright red, or neon green or some other metallic color. I don't know. Any ideas?

I really like how you paint the badges its super cool. I think you should paint the calipers in white or maybe bright red. The white color will be a nice contradiction with your'e wheels .

I like the metallic red. I like Elantra2005's idea of white. My wife, who usually doesn't care about anything I do for the most part, says I should stick with the red. She likes that color. We'll see.

So can anyone answer the above question regarding the rotors and calipers since it looks like I won't be able to do the XG350 after all? Thanks.

And there is no problem with the Sonata rotor being 11 inches whereas the XG calipers were made for 12 inches? Does the brake pad hang over from the rotor at all or does in make 100% contact?

For brake pads I was thinking Green Stuff.

Bump. I need to know before I buy them. I am going to San Diego tomorrow and the Oceanside Pick Your Part has a 2004 XG350 that looks to be in good condition. I want to stop by there and pick them up. I just need to know about the rotor's being 11" on the Sonata's and the XG350 calipers being made for 12". Will the brake pads hang over the rotor?

    Bump.

I am leaving for San Diego now. I hope someone can answer me in the next hour before I get to Oceanside. Thanks.

It didn't make a difference. I got there and found the car. The calipers were there, only problem was that the wheels were still on. So, I go to take them off and come to find out the lugs were aftermarket and a completely different size than stock. They were much smaller. I couldn't get the wheels off. I was pissed. So, anyways, I'll keep my eyes open for another XG350. There are four Pick Your Parts near me. One has to show up sooner or later.
