Turbo Kit Ideas & Questions...

Well, it has come down to the final days before I decide on what to do about the new turbo kit plans.

Here are my options..

1. Buy the alpine turbo kit stage zero, non-intercooled.
2. Buy the kspec turbo manifold and then finish the kit with ebay parts.
3. Speed-factor: PM'ed Tim, no reply so forget it ...


If i go with the alpine kit, it will have basically everything I need included with it. I already spoke to Alpine and they told me that they will sell me the kit without the unichip for a reduced cost since I will be using my own fuel tuning.

If i go with the kspec turbo manifold, I have several choices like:

1. t3 manifold for turbos with a built-in wastegate ( will a turbo fit without the wastegate actuator hitting my coolant lines ? )
2. t3 manifold for a t3 turbo that relies on an external wastegate.

I like option 2 here because I've read that you can easily change the wastegate springs on the external wastegates to ensure that boost is set to whatever you want. The problem is that external wastegates are harder to hook up because you have to run a pipe from the wastegate to the downpipe (unless you vent it to the atmosphere).


I like option 1 because its cheeper overall but its harder to tune the max boost unless you have some way to modify the wastegate springs ...



Anyway, I want to try to put this kit together for under $ 2000 non-intercooled at first, and then I plan to add an eclipse-style side-mount intercooler that will be hidden in the drivers side fender where the factory resonator used to be ...



next idea:

1. Buy a complete ebay civic turbo kit with a t3 setup.
2. Buy the Kspec turbo manifold to match it with either the internal or exteranl wastegate setup.
3. customize the parts and add anything that is missing to completely adapt it to my XD ..

I can get a complete honda turbo kit NEW for anywhere between $ 999 and $ 1500. with a good turbo and a bunch of parts and even a huge front-mount intercooler included ! These kits mostly come from SSAutochrome but there are a few people who have the original NEW Greddy turbo kit for about $1399. the Greddy kits even come with injectors and the E-Manage system (but I don't really care for those things anyway).

I think:
1) Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. The start of another 50+ page thread
2) Go with the alpine stage 0 OR
3) Go with the EXTERNAL wastegate.
Admit it ford, you're gonna want as much power as possible...if you go for the internal you're probably gonna end up swapping it out for an externat later anyway.

I like the alpine idea the most though. If you peice together an ebay kit you cant call someone for some part for free if something doesn't go as planned like with the S/C

I say go online and buy then 600-700 dollar civic turbo kits from ssautochrome, then buy the log style manifold. Then, we build it.

Ok sed, lets see what tim has to say about this...


Ok Tim, here is what I want.

1. T3 turbo. (integral wastegate not really required)
2. Turbo manifold (if turbo is external WG, then manifold has to have provision for external WG).
3. T3 downpipe.
4. charge pipe for non-intercooled setup straight from turbo to stock manifold/TB.
5. I would prefer a side-mount intercooler vs a front mount. (if you can custom make a side mount setup for this kit then I would buy that).
6. Turbo oil lines & fittings for return line and oil sending lines + restrictor for oil pressure to turbo line).

7. oops.. also if you go with an external WG then I'll need an exteral WG.. lol

turbo on ebay < 400 bucks

Oil Lines < 50 bucks

Wastegate < 100 bucks

Downpipe we can get made for ~ 100 bucks

so, figure @ Most you have 700 bucks in parts, plus your own fuel management that you already have.... need turbo timer and boost controller and charge pipes and manifold. 1500 bucks

I recently got ssauto crome headers for my moms tib and they did not even fit. They make a crappy product and i will never buy from them again. There was not just one problem there were a couple things wrong with the headers. NO ONE BUY FROM SS AUTO CHROME

you know ive got manifold (for XD, tim has said he will reweld it TIG), turbo (t3 super 60, like you want), and charge pipes w/ BOV straight from turbo to TB. the DP is sold, but im sure tim could make you one. and i sold the oil lines. LMK if youre interested.

He gave me a good price for the non-intercooled kit and he will be including these items for me with the purchase:

Silicone Couplers w/ clamps
Oil Lines w/ restrictor
