    Default hyundai master says hello

    Hello
I live in australia and am a hyundai technician of ten years dealer experience. I am a great fan of the product, and have witnessed hyundai rise from the cheap and cheerful to a car of rapidly improving quality. the cars we get here are exactly the same as what is avalable in the states , give or take a few models. I have much information relating to these cars and would be glad to give assistance when i can get online. i am interested in what other people think of the cars.
Have just been reading your mods page and was quite disturbed at this http://www.elantraxd.com/DIY/steering.php can any one tell me what the problem is here. it is both dangerous and potentially costly.
look forward to hearing from you
    HM

    There is no problem there.

We all know about the dangers of airbags, just some people choose to put an aftermarket steering wheel (i.e MOMO)

Welcome to the site, always glad to have another dealer presence here.

its the latest rage in the states, havent you heard? you've heard of "dubs" well this is "nubs" . . .you take the steering wheel off and you learn to steer with the nub that sticks out as part of the shaft that goes to the steering box. all the kids are doing it.

just messin with ya of course. welcome and thanks for volunteering your time/knowledge ahead of time

Well first of all before removinig the airbag, disconnect the Battery and wait a couple of minutes till the capacitors in the srscm discharge. This is what every mechanic is taught or should be taught. There are lots of stories of accidental deployments some fact some false, but best to be in the safe side (cos i know you americans love to sue. lol). i just think this is an important point to make before starting any airbag work. never f@#k with something that is a potential bomb.
the "black free moving ring" is a clock spring and contains a metal spring that winds and unwinds inside it to keep power to the A/B. If you are planning to reuse it on the same car (never use 2nd hand A/B parts by the way) make sure it is centralize. line up the two arrows at the top, make sure there is an equal amount of turns either way and lock it in this central position. dont store the airbag in a potential warm place. dry, cool is the best.
oh and disconnect the loom from the back of the A/B first then remove the wheel, then take the clock spring of easily.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.
Ive seen a lot of weird stuff from hyundai that ill share in good time.
    HM

Oh by the way i wasnt knocking people putting after market steering wheels on cars, i just prefer to see stuff done safely.

5 yrs, 50,000 miles bumper to bumper.
10 yrs, 100,000 miles powertrain warranty.
Aussies get gypped on the warranty down there (and the price, probably, you guys have insane import taxes)

    G'day Hyundai Master,
Nice to have another Melbournian on board here.

I love the Elantra, I traded in my VT Berlina for it 12 months ago, and apart from missing the extra 60kw, and my old sunroof, I haven't looked back. Petrol was costing me $60/week with the V6, now I spend less than half that!
Just came back from a 600km round trip to the Grampians, and the car was great on the twisties, but I definately need an upgraded rear sway bar soon!

15,000km on the car at the moment, and not one issue.

Welcome to the site, what do you drive?

    Cheers,
    Mark

    hi
I drive a 96 ford falcon. parts are cheap and i fix it myself. i picked it up wholesale so it was cheap. thinking of getting a hyundai soon, but ill see. having worked on them for so long i have developed a passion for them. i defend them against all the ignorant people out there. i believe in 10 to 15 years they will be fighting it out for the no. 1 spot in this country.
here is my list of hyundais from favorite to least favorite.
    NF sonata
    EF sonata series 2
    xd elantra
    tucson
    getz
    accent
    tiburon

    terracan
    santa fe
    granduer/XG
this list is made up of the more modern hyundais
if you want a explanation of it let me know.

Yeah, I'd be interested to know why you put the Tiburon below the Accent.

I love the EF Sonata series 2 as well.

I agree that in 5-10 years, Hyundai will be VERY popular. *fingers crossed*

The Getz is a great small car, just wish Hyundai Australia offered it with the 1.6L engine.
