I just got back from an "Inspired Drive."
http://www.chrysler.com/inspireddrives/index.html?context=chrysler_lifestyle-index&type=events

It was pretty cool. I drove a PT Cruiser Turbo at a little dragstrip they had setup. It was pretty quick. But the dragstrip was so short it wasn't too exciting.

Then I drove the Crossfire around a low-speed autocross course. I learned afterwards they weren't supposed to let the people drive much over 15 mph. But they never told me that and I simply didn't ask how hard I should push it. So naturally, I pushed the car to its limits. :D Within reason of course... I didn't hit any cones. But I think I made the instructor a little nervous and he warned me at one point not to try to get the rear end to step out. It was a lot of fun though. I also drove a 4 cylinder Sebring convertible which was pathetically slow and understeered horribly but I probably pushed it even harder than the Crossfire, lol.

The last event on the agenda was the 'thrill ride' where you ride with a professional driver in a Crossfire SRT-6 (330 hp) and a 300C SRT-8 (425 hp). They of course put on a show drifting around a much higher speed course. Those cars perform nicely.

The other event I'm planning on attending will be Mazda's Zoom Zoom Live. This should be even more fun since they're actually going to have professional drivers walk you through the course. And then you'll compete for the fastest time of the day. The RX-8 and the new Mazda MX-5 will both be available to drive.

That sounds awesome!

Darn... I missed the Chrysler show in Cleveland, and none of the Mazda ones are nearby. :(

I signed up a few weeks ago for the Mazda event in the Chicago area. Should be lots of fun!

Is the Mazda event free and can non-Mazda car owners attend. The chrysler one seemed to be invite only.

Actually, they're both free. Anyone can sign up. But I wouldn't wait too long to do so. They could be all filled up if you wait too long.

I did the GM one back in May and had a blast. Started out driving all nice and cautious and stuff but by the time I was thinking of heading out I did a few more drives kinda hoping they'd throw me out, thrashing around in a Redline Ion, but nobody looked at me twice.

Was going to do the "Taste of Lexus" this past weekend at FedEx Field but had way too much stuff to do after the Friday race at Dover, I never left the house.

Well, the Mazda event was awesome. There was plenty of driving to do and we were there from about 10AM to 3PM. I drove the 3, 6, MX-5, and RX-8. Every MX-5 & RX-8 I drove were stickshifts, and the others were automatics. All the cars had a great feel and handled very well. I'm pretty sure my XD could have taken the 3 and the 6 on these courses, but would be hard pressed to beat the MX-5 or RX-8.

I'll be posting a link to the pictures soon. I just need to put them in sequence and add captions first. :)

Hey!
That mini-doco was great, thanks for that!
*wishes we had those sorts of days over here*
The only Mazda's I've driven are the 6, 3, 2 and MX-5. They're great cars, that's for sure. One thing that stands out in my mind is that the build quality is well refined. However, this positive is counteracted by Mazda's crazy pricing schemes.
