HERE (http://www.myscca.com/community/video/video.do?method=videoDetail&svideoId=I0MDEw) is my car running at an SCCA event.

It's the only place I can access from work and I believe you need to be an SCCA member to see it. . . not real sure about that last part.

09-27-2007, 01:02 PM
Not bad, looking good, but may i ask. With Auto-X, How the hell do you know where to go with all those stinking lil cones? Thats my biggest issue, and why i prefer road course, cause you can easily see where the hell to go.

09-27-2007, 01:11 PM
You get about 2 hours of walking time. The way the cones are laid out also tell you which way to go. For the new guys, we always suggest walking it with an older member not just to know where it's going but a few tips of what to do.

The thing I like most about SCCA Solo stuff is the willingness to help. Even my biggest "competitors" and I will walk it together sharing notes!

btw. . .did you have to be a member to view it?

i HAVE ANOTHER ONE i'M in the process of loading.

09-27-2007, 01:31 PM
I always enjoy seeing elantras corning with 3 wheels on the ground, although the lift on that one corner wasn't nearly as much as some I've seen.

I agree with silentwolf - I'd be so confused as to where to go, it wouldn't even be fun.

09-27-2007, 01:36 PM
Believe me, we've had our share of lost people! But after a while it makes sense and feels "natural" I guess. Next year a I AM doing a road course somewhere.

09-27-2007, 04:09 PM
at the events I've been to, there are white chalk lines that connect the cones. some cones are laid on their side so they sort of point in the direction you should go. once you've walked the course it's hard to get lost unless you spin out and end up outside the course.

09-27-2007, 04:45 PM
Sweet, makes me want to do that.

09-27-2007, 05:24 PM
Nice one bob...I have been thinking of doing one after the turbo goes in

09-27-2007, 05:33 PM
You'll get slaughtered. I love watching the turbo 'tegs and chitvics get demolished by STi's and Evo's.

I do have another one pending review so it should be up shortly.

09-27-2007, 07:05 PM
Nice..... I love watching it because your car is white like mine and I imagine it's me =). Nipped that last cone on the slalom?

09-27-2007, 07:27 PM
Lookin' good.

09-27-2007, 08:51 PM
Looks like fine.

09-27-2007, 11:39 PM
Good stuff Bob, though I guess you need to be there to not have it look like you're just driving around in circles and avoiding cones.

09-27-2007, 11:43 PM
That's some damn good driving, Bob.

Gotta love the squealing of the tires.

09-28-2007, 07:58 AM
SECOND ONE IS UP (http://www.myscca.com/community/video/video.do?method=videoDetail&svideoId=I0MDIw). THis one was at Ft Wayne's Verizon Wireless location. I ended up 4th of 13 in class and fastest novice of the day out of 30 iirc.

09-28-2007, 01:30 PM
cool vid. It looks like alot of fun :)

One day I guess....one day

09-28-2007, 03:50 PM
lol! Great video Bob!! Really love the lift on the 1st video....that rocked!

09-28-2007, 04:14 PM
There's a couple more but they exceed the 150mb limit IIRC. THey showed a lot of wheel lift.

Hopefully in a few weeks I can load up the in car ones I got from two weeks ago.

10-11-2007, 01:39 PM
While I know that I will NEVER be able to beat the chitvic Si's but I can mix it up with the rest of the STS crowd. I don't have to win every time. My ego is A-OK with that!

10-15-2007, 10:24 AM
Welp, still camera-less but took the car to South Bend sat night, drive sunday (after 4 hours of sleep) to Auburn. Whooped up on some people on the course and beat it home. 421 miles in a day and a half and on one tank of gas. 13.1 gallons to the tune of 32.14mpg on super wide, super sticky tires AND 6 runs on the course. Ended up 4th of 10 in class behind 2 chitvic Si's and a neon coupe R/T.

10-15-2007, 10:27 AM
i would say thats mixin it up. as you said, you may not kick all their asses, but you can still put them in their place :D

10-15-2007, 10:32 AM
What I beat: mid 90's prelude. non-Si, 2.5 Impreza on 245 wide Hankooks (not in class specs, 225 max width), Jetta 2.0 on some nice looking 17's/ASX, 2 Neon ACR's and a co-driver on one of the Si's.

OK. . .so no new pics or vids right now BUT. . . we had our last event yesterday. It was a non-points event, invitational for specialized workers only. We had 34 people show up and run. We did 3 run groups, worked one ran two. 5 runs each group, so a total of 10 runs. No one kept track of our times and we weren't counting cones. . . . just a fun day!

Car swapping was not only allowed but encouraged. I spent time in an 06 Solstice, an E-mod Lotus replica with a GM V6 and our class whooping Civic.

THe Solstice was the most fun to drive. It drove easily, had good grip, decent power and could give you power-on oversteer. . . something I greatly missed. My fastest time in my car was a 58.8, fastest in the Solstice was a 59.9 but I was learning the car and a few more laps would have DEFINATELY bee much quicker.

THe civic. . . I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the car is WICKED. Stupid fast on the course and the amount of grip it has is unbelievable. My one lap in it was a 57.7, over a second faster than my car, and I was being timid. Car is a track star, hands down. But it's emotionless, almost soulless. Everything about it is task oriented. It is not a fun drive IMO. It's too much work and not enough fun. This is the car to get if you want to race competitively at the national level, for sure. But for a fun weekend racer? Not to me. Call me wierd (Wierdo!) but it just lacks personality. Not to mention it would be a demon to tolerate driving anywhere but directly to and from the track.

The Emod Lotus, I rode in twice. Wow. That's the only word to describe that car/thing. Wow. 23x12 race slicks on the back of this 1760lb car with fuel and driver. On launch you feel them scrambling to bite and once they do, it's nothing short of amazing. The owner has been solo'ing since 1964 in everything from Beetles to Scirocco's, Mustangs and things he said couldn't even be called a car! Amazing driver in a wickedly fast machine. Our best run was a 56.6. . . Wow.

10-29-2007, 10:29 AM
good video, gave me flash backs to when I ran my Camaro decades ago :D
It was a BLAST.. Make we want to do it again...

Humm sounds like an idea for Spring or Summer 08. Of course I'll probably be out of from from Jun 1st till the end of July,,, hey what events are going on in Aug 08 ? hahahaha, Maybe May 08?

10-29-2007, 10:39 AM
Don't know yet, next years schedule is not up. We're searching out some new sites for next year.

10-29-2007, 11:00 AM
Nice! I too like the solstice (actually its brother the sky [preferably red line]). Glad to hear about runs in the different cars. Great work (or is it play?)

10-29-2007, 11:05 AM
I was impressed wth the way the Solstice drove. Very predictable, very tossable. The downside was how large it felt. Once you get accustomed to it the car is so easy to place where you want it.

I still prefer the Elantra for the "fun factor" because I can drive it everyday.

Would I take a Soltice/Sky if offered? Hell yeah.

10-30-2007, 01:38 PM
Gots me a new picture. .. . That's my pa in the passenger seat. Looks like some negative camber would be very beneficial!

10-30-2007, 02:42 PM
Looking at that photo, do you ever rub the fenders? I'm not sure if it's the angle of the photographer, but the tire looks like it is extremely close to hitting the fender.

Those wheels look sharp by the way.

10-30-2007, 02:56 PM
It is. . . I've hit ONCE and that was on a course that could have replicated a rumble strip on the side of the highway. Of course, they're 225 wide tires, I would expect them to either rub or be extremely close!

11-20-2007, 11:17 PM
Since I'm in the b*stard step child car of yours I hope to be able to replicate your results when I get started. You're an inspiration.

11-21-2007, 08:06 AM
. You're an inspiration.

I gotta say that's the FIRST time anyone ever said that!
