: Project SCCA Solo ST SWift (finally) makes her debut!

04-19-2009, 06:55 PM
Finally, after 12 months of work, planning, one stormed out event and 2 cars..... ST Swift has made her debut. Nuts and bolts: Car placed 3rd out of 7 on a rain soaked day. We were within 2 seconds of a pair of NAtional prepped Civic Si's on our first outing. Both myself and my co-driver realized there is something there in this car.

Finer points, needs more negative camber upfront. Gotta keep the revs up on smaller/tighter courses and have to keep the momentum. THe 'stone RE-01R's are a fantastic tire, but at full tread they left a little to be desired and they did NOT want to stop in the rain! Gonna take some practice. I do knwo that I now LOVE slaloms and quick direction changes....both things I could not do in my previous car (2880lb Hyundai Elantra). Car was flat, handled well and ran fantastic... vids coming soon.

And yes, those vids need to be lickety split now!!!

Nice going "sweetie", lol.

04-20-2009, 08:11 AM
Yeah... sometimes Wifey forgets she doesn't like this kinda stuff. :abovelol:

04-20-2009, 08:34 AM
Let down her tough-gal act for a second hey? Sounded windy out there.

04-20-2009, 08:48 AM
it was picking up by our last run. Rain moving in again. It rained off and on all day. The track surface was different every run.

04-20-2009, 10:05 AM
looks like a lot of fun. car sounds awesome and looks like she's a peppy little ****er. Ha! Good Job man congrats!

04-20-2009, 10:18 AM
Yeah you have to keep these things up on the pipe if you want to move anywhere quickly. Looked like fun, congratulations.

04-20-2009, 12:51 PM
4200 is the magic number... from there on up it friggin screams.

04-26-2009, 07:12 PM
For some reason I still think your like 50+. Looks like you had fun.

04-27-2009, 08:11 AM
Just got back from a Test n Tune at Grissom. Put down 30+ runs on a well laid out 50-60 second course. LEarned a ton of info on tire pressure and what I need to do. Learned that this car needs an LSD to really find it's true potential. That the driver needs to learn finesse on the little skinny pedal to the far right. Learned that passengers do NOT help times! That this car is faster than the driver. Got my first sun burn of the season in, had a ball and was home early.... I really love this little beast.

MoS is born.

Oh... nd what better place for MoS to break a milestone than on the track?

and a cute little vid:

Wow, you got 30+ runs in on a test and tune??

How many people in your club?

Looks like a decent course, but much different that what we run. Or i should say used to run. I kinda got sick of it after a couple of seasons because there'd be 100+ cars per event, and the course design started getting really obnoxious. Run anything bigger than a Mini and you would struggle to be competitive just because the course was so tight, just turned into a sea of cones. No rhythm at all. Was very hard to improve as a new driver when you only got 2:30sec of track time in an 8hr day.

04-27-2009, 09:36 AM
1:09 Smart car!

Those gates are huge? The course looks confusing.

04-27-2009, 09:48 AM
Nice run Bob! I hoping to build a car for next year, possibly for this year's winter runs, not sure yet. It's time to put my skills to use and have some fun, legally.

04-27-2009, 10:55 AM
The gates were normal width, the Swift makes it seem small. There was actually a spot on the course that allowed me to not move the steering wheel to miss a cone where everyone ele had to dodge it..... that's how small this car is!

Tommy: THere were only 5 of us up on Sun. THe rest were all there Sat and went to different events on Sunday. So we had the place almost to ourselves. It was nice, laid back and fun.

04-27-2009, 04:29 PM
That's pretty sweet. The jackasses here would probably cancel it if less than 20 showed up.

How close are you to other clubs to run in their events? Do you get a lot of seat time in?

04-27-2009, 04:42 PM
Our normal events see 80-120 entries. We get 4-6 runs in depending on site, and we have 4 sites this year. This was just a test n tune, cost about double of what a normal event would cost, but I also got 4-5 events worth of runs in one day.

It was a good chance to get some serious seattime in it. I learned a lot of nuances of throttle tip in. It WILL destroy the inside front tire when the driver doesn't pay 100% to it's use.

post some more pics of the swift man, i think i either saw your videos on teamswift or on youtube before. i didnt know you were on here lol. small world. anywys i had 3 swifts, and autocrossed one of them for a while, dont have too much footage but there some stuff on youtube, search "john concha". im currently looking to buy another swift for road course :)

Car won the ST open class locally this weekend. No where close to the spec civics that all play in our "X" class on a national level, but I'm fastest of the oddball cars at least!

06-15-2009, 11:08 AM
congrats! i just won 2nd place in jersey at the time attacks in my 08 civc yesterday :)

06-15-2009, 05:43 PM
Good work grandpa!

06-15-2009, 05:56 PM
Bob have I told you lately that I hate you? well I do and your damned MoS too, I think I'm going to do some auto x in the accent in a few weeks in Maryland.

OK, just installed the new H&R's. The king's were absolutely done. Ride is still overtly stiff and in your face, but that's what I want. Wheels are 14x6 PCW +30 offset with some free 185/65/14 goodyear something or another, the setup I use to drive it around and to and from events. Event tires/wheels are my 15x7 +40 offset with 'Stone RE-01R's.

Here's the pics:

07-25-2009, 06:14 PM
is that fast?

07-25-2009, 06:46 PM
nice bob. that things awesome!

07-25-2009, 09:35 PM
is that fast?

Define "fast". Fast in a straight line? Not really. about as quick as the Elantra in a straight line. Around a corner? Yes. Around a lot of corners? hell yes.

07-25-2009, 10:36 PM
Maybe you could get a big vinyl of your face and put it on the hood. That would be awesome.

Looks good.

Today I had it out getting the springs to settle in. Was running a stretch of road I refer to as my "test track". It's about 7 miles of twisty, curvy 2 lane with lots of elevation change and off camber wierdly banked turns. I had two guys on harley sportsters that had been following me for several miles. I hit my first hard left 90* turn and they realized I wasn't going to be a pokey metro. So the lead bike I can hear him pour on the steam and see him leaning in as deep as a sportster can. He's pushing hard, leaving his buddy in the dust.... getting SMOKED by the MoS. I went from 3 car lengths ahead to half mile by the time it was over and I let off (max speed through that stretch is typically 60-70mph) and cruised to the next town. The caught up to me in town and as they turned gave me the "thumbs up".... I thought it funny.

How do you like the Potenzas? I'm still researching tires.

07-26-2009, 08:08 AM
For auto-x, they are amazing. For street dribving they are terrible. THey're hard, loud and vibration prone at higher speeds. But for auto-x they are perfect.

07-26-2009, 10:14 AM
I thought that those tires were discontinued?

07-26-2009, 11:58 AM
RE-01R's are yes, I bought minoe on close-out for $60 each. THey were replaced with the even better RE-11's. Likely what I'll pick up next spring.
