I have a magnaflow exhaust I want to install. I was at a local exhaust shop yesterday getting a quote and the mechanic said that I would get no noticable sound difference without removing the stock resonator. He suggested cutting it out and putting a straight pipe in it's place.
Has anyone done away with the stock resonator and done this with a magnaflow or similar exhaust? DOes it sound ricey?
Should I insist he either a) does not remove the stock resonator, or b) buy and aftermarket resonator rather than the straight pipe.
I'd ultimately like to be stock sounding at idle and a nice deep sound under exceleration....and little extra noise at highway speeds.
Thanks!!
(btw, budget dictates I can't go full 2.25 mandrel cat-back right now, I was quoted $60 to put in the straight pipe and mount the exhaust which is where I want to be at.)
