I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So in late 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

We've had excellent participation by Elantra owners, with over 500 signed up. We had initial reliability stats for the 2011 Sonata well ahead of anyone else, and look forward to doing the same with the new Elantra. Just a matter of getting enough owners involved.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the Elantra, for free. I'll share results for the Elantra MD in this thread after each update.

Eleven owners of the 2011 now signed up. A good start, but more remain needed.

We'll have some initial stats for the 2011 Elantra in August, with a preview for participants next month.

35 owners signed up so far. With 40+ we'd likely have full results, so a few more participants would be very helpful.

We have an initial reliability stat for the new Elantra based on owner experiences through June 30, 2011.

With a reported repair frequency of 26 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2011 Elantra is better than average so far, very good for a redesigned model in its first year.

We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

We've updated our reliability stats for the Elantra to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 Elantra: 0, low, very small sample size
2013 Elantra: 16, low
2012 Elantra: 44, moderate
2011 Elantra: 38, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2013 Elantra: 86, < 1
2012 Elantra: 66, < 1

Additional participants always helpful (especially if you see "low sample size" next to the year, or no stat at all).

We've updated our reliability stats for the Elantra to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

2014 Elantra: 22, low, small sample size
2013 Elantra: 15, low
2012 Elantra: 24, low
2011 Elantra: 55, moderate, small sample size

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2013 Elantra: 82, < 1
2012 Elantra: 73, < 1

No stat, or a small sample size? Then we especially need more owners involved for that model year.
