: XD vs. Integra vs. Mustang

07-31-2005, 01:45 PM
on august 23rd me and bunch of friends are heading down to cecil county dragway to race just for fun.... the list of cars going are a 04' chevy cavailer auto with just a fart can and his cat cut out, a 94' acura integra auto and he said he should have CAI, headers and exhaust on it by then, a 03' ford focus automatic with nothing, stock power and rolling on 18s! lol possibly a 00' camry four cylinder auto, maybe an olds 88 auto, and a 98' v6 mustang manual.... with cai, full exhaust and headers do you think its possible that i can beat the stang and integra? only other things performance wise are new plugs and wires... if you think theres a part or something i should order by then that'll greatly help tell me and I WILL order it! thx for your input i want to show them all up in the XD:)

07-31-2005, 01:46 PM
75 Shot.

07-31-2005, 01:52 PM
You wanna race against a Mustang v6? lol...watch out for that camry too. Is the integra dohc, and what do you have in your car right now? Depending on what engine the Focus has he might beat you too. oops plugs and wires. yeah 97 accord cai, jspeed underdrive pulley, those 2 should put you past the integra.

07-31-2005, 01:54 PM
psh older mustangs have 150hp with a weight of 3600 with a person in the car.... weight to power ratio not too good.... i've driven the camry its SLOW.... hardly any power... integra is DOHC i believe non vtec version... and i have CAI,headers, exhaust, plugs and wires.... as for the focus... it has the 130 hp engine and larger wheels than stock.... it won't move too quickly off the line

07-31-2005, 01:57 PM
your car is automatic?

07-31-2005, 01:58 PM
my car is stick... everyone BUT the mustang is auto

07-31-2005, 01:59 PM
What year is your car?

07-31-2005, 02:00 PM
2002, gls if it matters

07-31-2005, 02:00 PM
well then its you and the stang in the running.

Get a good jump on them by not bogging the motor, launch @ 3500 - 4000 rpm, don't just dump the clutch, feel it grab feather it out, and you have a chance.

Seriously, a 75 shot and these guys would see only your taillights.

07-31-2005, 02:01 PM
Actually it does the 02 has 135hp and my 05 has 138hp both stock.

07-31-2005, 02:02 PM
lol... nah... its for fun... going out and buying nitrous is excessive! i think ima go with a short shifter tho from TWM before then and possibly pulleys...

07-31-2005, 02:03 PM
well, you can get a nitrous set-up for the same money as TWM and pulley set.

07-31-2005, 02:08 PM
hmmm wasn't aware of that difference with the years.... thanks for sharing that money... i will probably take the spare out and other junk before i leave the house... in hopes of getting an edge!

like i said... nitrous is excessive... :P

07-31-2005, 02:09 PM
If you just got the jspeed underdrive pulley you would have no problem with the integra, as for the mustang...I was thinking of the newer ones(not the girly looking ones), but you will be able to look at him in the rearview, roll your window down, look back at him, and possibly.... :nono:

07-31-2005, 02:11 PM
hmmm i'll defintely think about the pulleys...

07-31-2005, 02:31 PM
I raced a 65 v8 mustang, and he only beat me by 1 car length (although he had a pinched header and automatic), and I also raced a 93 integra ls non-vtec automatic with headers, exhaust, and intake and I raped him. So you should be fine at the races.

07-31-2005, 04:30 PM
well, i went out today, ran 6-7 times, had great launches on all runs, hit shifts PERFECTLY, w/ a SRI, 2.25" catback, and my subs out, all i coudl get out of the car was a 17.492. thats the BEST. it was probably 90 degrees and i drove an hour to get there, but i was seriously disappointed

sorry. this is evan938 posting. friend logged in on my comp

07-31-2005, 04:44 PM
Stock 98 Mustang v6- 0-60= 9.9sec
Stock 02 Elantra i4- 0-60= 8.8sec

07-31-2005, 05:06 PM
i did 0-61.55 in 11.4831 (8th mile) at the track today. check out my thread, shows how i did w/ a SRI and 2.25" exhaust, and stock interior, no subs

08-01-2005, 01:07 AM
If you know how to drive, you could take them all with some weight reduction.

Let us know how it goes.

08-01-2005, 09:17 AM
i'll be sure to let you know how it goes... i'm so psyched for it! anything i should know too about going to the track for my first time???

My buddy has a 99 Mercury Cougar that's he has dumped quite alot of money into. Mercury is basically made by Ford, and those Cougars are very similar to the old SVT Ford Contours, in which alot of Cougar owners put in SVT performance parts. He has done CAI, exhaust, ported/polished IM, BBTB, plugs, wires, and lowered and he pulled a BEST 17.1 !! I blew him away pretty bad in my elantra, so you and that mustang would be a close race I think!

08-01-2005, 02:51 PM
that's sad.... people just can't drive...

08-01-2005, 02:55 PM
I used to have a '97 Mustang V6 5-speed (150 hp -- same as the '98). It's almost exactly as fast as my XD with a 5-speed. So that would normally be a close race, except he might have a good advantage with those mods. The 3.8L responds to N/A improvements better than our little 4 cylinder does.

08-01-2005, 03:10 PM
Also, be very wary of 3.8L olds 88.

08-01-2005, 11:14 PM
oh the stang wont' have any mods on it:) it'll be stock.... the integra is gonna be the one with I/H/E... or so he says... i'm going to upgrade my clutch by then hopefully i decided on a stage 3 XTD and haven't decided on flywheel yet.... clutch should be ordered tomorrow with any luck

08-02-2005, 12:59 AM
oh the stang wont' have any mods on it:) it'll be stock....
Ah, I misread your post I guess. Then you should have the advantage.

08-02-2005, 12:50 PM
If the mustang driver doesn't suck at driving, you're done. Sure it's only 150hp @ 4000 rpm to your 135ish, but he's got 215 lb-ft of torque @ 2750 rpm compared to your 132 @ 4500.

horsepower doesn't mean nearly as much as torque.

08-02-2005, 01:13 PM
What wheels/tires are you gonna ride on? If you have stock rims go for plus zero tires such as 205/55r15 or even 205/50r15 for an even smaller wheel diameter and better grip.

08-02-2005, 01:32 PM
it's all in how you drive. i have a friend with an audi TT quatro doing 16.00sec. 1/4mile. thats sad. and I was doing 17.8 with a 250lb competition sound system in the trunk and a 75lb over sized battery in the front. with an air filter as my only mod.

me at the track. 2003 gls.

My battery

my box.

so if you know how to race your car. it should be easy to beat those guys.

08-02-2005, 03:33 PM

Actually, horsepower is a much more important figure than peak torque. You can avoid the lack of low-end torque problem with your XD by launching the car at 3K - 4K rpm's. After that, in all out racing you'll stay in the power band nearly the whole time.

In racing, the peak torque # is insignificant. Sure, the Mustang has lots of torque, but it redlines at 4,800 rpm, that's why the hp is so low. Cars will make up for a lack of peak torque or a lack of RPM's with gearing. In the end, even though the redlines between the two cars differs by 1,700 rpm's the shift points are almost exactly the same (into 2nd @ 30 mph, into 3rd @ 60 mph, into 4th @ 85 mph).

The thing that is significant is the torque curve -- however you can adjust your driving style to help compensate as I described above.

Sorry, I wrote that in a hurry but hopefully it makes sense...

I'll tell you this, Edmunds.com claims a 0-60 mph time of 8.4 seconds for both cars. And while I never raced the two cars head to head, I believe my old Mustang would've been an extremely close race to the Elantra stock for stock.

08-02-2005, 04:01 PM
hmm... thanks for all the advice! umm i'm going to get someone to bring a video camera hopefully... if someone does and i can figure out how to get that onto my computer i will post a race video... providing everything goes as planned... worse comes to worse and people cancel i'm bringing down the focus!

08-02-2005, 04:02 PM
Lol, I saw a Focus at Ford Nationals run an 18.xx last weekend. I really, really hope you can beat the Focus (although I doubt the one I saw was very modified with that time).

08-02-2005, 04:11 PM
he'll be stock with a K&N and 18x8 wheels... lol should be easy... if anything i'll just be able to see my times!

08-03-2005, 04:11 PM
when is this going to happen?

08-04-2005, 07:43 AM
^^^ In his first post, he said August 23.

08-04-2005, 11:47 PM
must of missed that part. Well, let us know :)

08-04-2005, 11:59 PM
don't worry i will:) i hope i don't disappoint anyone with my times lol:P

08-17-2005, 01:47 PM
aw i didn't know that anyone under 18 can't race... probably should've figured but i didn't... so not racing anyone! well might still be going against the integra but everyone else is out... i think i'm still going tho i might push it back a month until my friend with the focus is 18

08-17-2005, 06:00 PM
how about doin some night time empty street race ;)

08-17-2005, 10:02 PM

Go to your corner now, street racing is bad in all ways and is bad. We've all been guilty of it at sometime, but its BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD!

08-17-2005, 10:07 PM
No street racing in here please :)

08-17-2005, 10:42 PM
i think i might just be waiting a month..... oh well.. just more time for mods

08-22-2005, 06:51 PM
i toatsed an 02 mustang gt with three people in my car the mustang should pull harder out the gate but if you know how to shift you should get them in the end the integra might beat ya but again only off the line you should be able to punch it through the gears oh by the way go with a turbo never gas it nos is for those who can not build a motor and need to compensate oh yeah fairly cheap help with take off and top end till limiter damn i hate that thing is light wieght pulleys they help or maybe it just felt that way to me clean your air filter when you get there dirty filter means less air going in less air means your engine has to work harder than necassary to get the job doneand don't ever street race  it makes baby jesus cry and stupid kids kill people while doing it

08-22-2005, 06:59 PM
:abovelol: :bs: You beat a GT mustang with your N/A XD that makes 160 HP max and then you woke up...

08-22-2005, 06:59 PM
i toatsed an 02 mustang gt with three people in my car the mustang should pull harder out the gate but if you know how to shift you should get them in the end
... I don't think so. The Mustang GT is much faster than the V6 model, and much much faster than our XD, unless you have nitrous or forced induction. Either he wasn't trying or it wasn't a GT.

08-22-2005, 07:01 PM
no i did i don't know if they did not know what they were doing or what but i spanked em till 112

08-22-2005, 07:02 PM
Please learn how to use periods and commas...

08-22-2005, 07:03 PM
nope punctuation is for those with time i have none

08-22-2005, 07:05 PM
You have no time, then don't post. Use proper language and grammar.

Once again, wake up! They were not racing you! An average GT mustang will run mid 14s, you run high 15s with a good driver. They pull a lot harder once they get to the higher speeds. Either way you'd get owned.

08-22-2005, 07:43 PM
I think the Mustang will win being a V6, having headers, exhaust & manual transmission. It's a heavier car but that's still putting out a good bit more than the Elantra, even with a stick.

08-23-2005, 03:34 PM
You don't have time cause you're still trying to catch that mustang!!!

08-23-2005, 04:35 PM
i toatsed an 02 mustang gt with three people in my car the mustang should pull harder out the gate but if you know how to shift you should get them in the end

An '02 mustang GT will will spank a stock elantra, thats off the line and at higher speeds so:
A. He wasn't racing you
B. He was parked
C. He missed evey gear

Beating a '94-'98 V6 Mustang is possible for our elantra's since those years only had 150HP, even a 99-04 V6 Mustang will beat a stock elantra

I think its great that you have such a creative imagination.

10-22-2005, 03:33 PM
i'm bringing this post back up because this never happened when i thought it would but it is next time i'm home but i'm just going with the integra... he's got AEM cai (i think 2.5 inches), tsudo exhaust (2.5inches in diameter) and DC headers. no other mods. hes an automatic. i have 2.25 exhaust, 2.75" cai, headers, stage 3 clutch/lite weight flywheel. i'll tell you how it goes in two weeks when i'm home lol

10-22-2005, 03:43 PM
You should have no problems beating him I think... well, if you only gonna get out of those 16s finally...

10-22-2005, 03:51 PM
gotta remember last time i raced my clutch was also in the stage of dying lol

10-22-2005, 04:02 PM
I pretty much agree with most of the people here. You should be able to spank the auto Integra, but the Mustang V6 might give you a bit of a problem. I used to have an Integra (older model mind you), but my XD2 is much quicker, I've also driven a V6 mustang, and it felt fairly quick off the line, but I can't remember off the top of my head if it felt quicker than my XD.

10-23-2005, 07:18 PM
Make a new thread once you race him.

10-23-2005, 08:38 PM
i had a stock 1986 acura legend (yes, the first year that car was ever made) and it had close to 300k miles on it. that car was awesome, the month that it lasted. the only mod that i had time to do was seat covers before i killed the engine in a race against an 87 integra. i still won, just had smoke shooting out of my exhaust more than a hotboxed room where the door had just been opened.
