Hyundai Canada Recall #R0058 -Rust issue - Which dealership did you take your car in?

I'm not gonna lie, I would love it if a Hyundai dealer decides that the lower control arms of both my EGT and my Tiburon are unfit and will replace them under the recall, comes with new ball joints and whatnot woohoo! And given that the automotive repair sector in eastern Canada isn't doing as well as before since a lot of new cars are being sold with 3 or 4 years worth of free maintenance, wouldn't a dealer be more willing now to do some costly repairs and send the bill to Hyundai Canada than just drill holes and lubricate? I've just changed the intake gasket and I was thinking about how great it would've been if this was included in the recall for a free repair!! lol why can't life be easy Anyway, I'm going to book an appointment at Attrell Hyundai in Brampton, Ontario for the recall inspection and see what happens.

The car received new subframe assembly with control arms. This is the picture of what happened to my 03 EGT, the car started pulling to the right really hard and I was close to Agincourt Hyundai in Markham so I took the car in straight away on Wednesday night and I was able to pick it up 24 hours later. Boy was I glad it didn't happen on the highway and strange that it actually happened to me!

Yes. Dealerships love doing unnecessary repairs, having to send the part back to Hyundai corporate for inspection, having them find out the part wasn't in need of replacement, having the claim debited, having a complete audit come as the result resulting in more debited claims, and having charges of warranty fraud brought up against them. Yep, dealerships love it.

I had to bring my car in to the dealer (Attrell in Brampton) in early winter 2009 to get my ebrake redone. I avoid the stealership like the plague so it hardly ever gets service there. While my car was up on the hoist, they called me over and escorted me into the shop. Didn't they find a serious issue with not one, but both of my control arms. They could have broken any minute. I was absolutely shocked by my luck of having them find this. The car was deemed "too dangerous" to be on the road and I completely agreed. I went home and researched the problem and somewhere on this forum people had other similar issues with the control arm. Low and behold, a recall was being thought of in the US at the time - however they forgot about us little Canadians. After talking to Attrell they had already agreed that they would replace both the arms under a "recall" that hadn't yet hit Canada yet. I actually brought in a couple page printout of a thread in for them to see. They took a copy and submitted it to head office. The control arms were about $1000 and I couldn't believe I walked out of there with a free replacement. Had it not have been for breaking my ebrake, I could have had a total wreck on my hands at some point shortly thereafter. (Remember to go get an alignment after getting these replaced)

in July 2010, I received a letter - a recall for the "salt states" for the very same control arms that I had previously had replaced. I smiled and shook my head and couldn't believe how long it took them to bring it here. I have been meaning to go back to the dealer with this letter and ask them to check the control arms a second time. Who knows what they replaced them with really? In addition, this letter states "the dealer will inspect the front subframe of your vehicle for signs of corrosion....is a precautionary measure......if a specified level of corrosion damage, the dealer will replace the front subframe." REALLY. WOW. That sucks.

This really isn't JUST a control arm rust issue....a case of the metal termites is clearly all over the car. If/when I go to the dealer, I'll make sure to send along an update.

I am having the same issue with my forward control arms. One broke the other night, had it repaired for $365, then found out about Hyundai Recall R0058 for this exact issue.

The left side arm is clearly rusted through and the mechanic described it as "very dangerous".

When I call the dealer and give my VIN, they say I am not covered by the recall. Even though it is a 2002 Elantra that was originally sold in Ottawa (as far as I know).

Has anyone had the repair done elsewhere and been reimbursed by Hyundai?

I have already sent at email to Hyundai Canada (via their website form). Not sure what else to do. Any tips ?
