That is nuts, even taking a little car like that and putting an Elantra motor in it is quite a jump. I guess with enough time and money anything can be made into a monster.

blog updated!

"Good showing"...my NYC auto show coverage...

if anybody has any ideas about what they would like to see or hear from me by all means post up! Happy reading. And if anybody is in the NJ/PA area...i'm still thinking of throwing a meet together...

I agree, people are getting more and more lazy. Even at my work I see it. The question I get asked most is "How do we automate this?" The people that need a car that has blind spot detection, active cruise control and self parallel parking, should not be driving. I bet in the coming years when cars do finally drive themselves, safely, those are going to be the first people to get automated cars. Where is the fun in that? I enjoy driving my car. It helps me forget about the crap I put up with all day.

Hell, I will be one of the first people to get an automated car - and I enjoy driving. I just enjoy my time more, and if I can do something else instead of wasting my time staring at dashed lines as they pass by on the interstate, I'm all for it. Then when I get home I can do what I want, like wash my "toy" car.

I don't see any of these new technologies as things that are degrading the ability of people. Those abilities are already gone. It's good to have the technology pick up people's slack.

As for the MT discontinuation on the Sonata - it's about time. It never made much sense to put the stickshift in a family car. The number of buyers out there for a MT family car can probably be counted on your thumbs - especially since MT doesn't make much difference in the MPG game anymore. The fact that the car has a "turbo" does not make it a performance car that needs a 6-speed MT gearbox. The Turbo-4 is simply the modern technology solution to the older V6s of yesteryear. Buick's experiment is probably more about re-imaging than actually thinking people are going to buy many stickshift family sedans.

Right. To a lot of people driving isn't particularly enjoyable. Especially driving in traffic.

it just makes me sad...its kinda like the older generation saying goodbye to carburation....or something else that they liked so much.

I know that there are more people on the road and that these tech ideas are a somewhat good thing...but picking up the slack because people cant drive in the first place is annoying for those of us that do.

and yes they should have a manual for the turbo motor. There are quite a bit of people that i have talked to that DID NOT buy the car simply because it does not have a manual. The auto is slow as molasses...and if you put it into manual "mode" its even slower.

I will NEVER have an automated car...i'm holding onto my elantra for that very reason....haha

It's a family sedan, not a sports car. smooth shifts are more important than fast times. You are not the market hyundai wants to sell the sonata to.

The 3.3 lambda sonatas never had mt, did they?

no but you could get a fully loaded 2.4 with a manual. The turbo motor attracts a different crowd. Especially people like me that are 30 something and want a more mature car.
